Just watched Sandman

As a major comics guy (I've owned a comic store for almost 30 years)…
Have any recommendations for me!?

As a kid, I was obsessed with Spawn.

Sandman, Berserk, and Knight of the Dinner Table are what I consider perfection.

Only other comics I collected were the old Crossgen (Ruse, Sojurn, etc.). I was pretty sad to see them go under...

Sandman was amazing, but they messed up the end of the season. The last episode was just the Sandman doing something that could have been inserted anywhere in the season. It was anticlimactic. The episode just prior to it felt like a season ender, with Lucifer getting ready to go on the offensive. They should have swapped those two episodes.

Maybe... I'll re-watch to confirm my thoughts...

But my initial thoughts are we see Morpheus has grown as a person. He couldn't do some of those things earlier because he was too much of a dick.

Eleven? Part of it is very related to what comes later.

Those are some good comics.

Some of my favorites, beyond Sandman, are Locke & Key (the TV show is only okay, but the comic is one of the best of all comics); Saga (a masterful mix of all genres); Anything by Ed Brubaker (In particular Criminal & Reckless); Whiteout by Greg Rucka (there was a movie, apparently, that did NOT do it justice); and Something is Killing the Children.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things, but those are a good start. There absolutely ARE some really good Marvel & DC comics, of course, but the above are generally more stand-alone (though some of those have quite a few volumes).

It still would be related if it happened one episode sooner and then the rest of us who don't know things like that would have had an season finale that felt like a finale. ;)

If you watched it right away the finale would have been 10, and 11 would have been a surprise bonus :)

(They apparently weren't and maybe still aren't guaranteed a season 2 :.-( ).

Episode 5 felt more than a bit beyond PG-13 to me...

I want to say it seemed like the series had the rating, not the episodes separately (6 certainly didn't seem Adult rating deserving).

Ahh. Maybe its a culture thing. In Japan we have Nc-15. Adult is typically reserved for porn. Canada too. R-18 is where the majority of movies lie and adult is reserved for porn.

Seeing adult on a show with no graphic sec or violence is just weird to me. I watched this with my teenage kids and we all kinda wondered why it got an Adult rating.

In the US Sandman had a TV-MA. It looks like the TV ratings TV-G, TV-PG, TV-14 roughly parallel the movie G, PG, and PG-13 ratings. Is TV-MA both the movie R and NC-17 put together? Episode 5 felt R to me, but definitely not anything at all close to NC-17.
