Samad saddled up and nodded to the half-elf, "As-salam alaykum, Alvise. Do not fear, we will try our most to bring the brothers back, and if not, then we will bring their justice. Keep yourself guarded though, for I hope the next time we meet will not be like the last two."

He could not stifle a quick laugh as he drew the horse around to address the others. Regaining his composure, he asked "Are we now ready to depart?"

The sorceress shrugged. it was quite obvious she was not leading the way into any ambushes.

Tsaaruk shrugs at Iago's question. "It is not natural for me to fight from the horse. I prefer to have my feet on the ground. However I can lead the way." He climbs to the saddle of his overly large horse and moves off to take the lead following the wide path left by the monsters.

Ru laughed as Pirvinia asked about his horse skills.

"Horses are great for moving; bad for sneaking. Since I tend to sneak, I've only got the basics when it comes to riding these things. I can stick to the front, though, since I do better with a meat shie... er, with a warrior to partner with in a fight," he says.

You follow the trail of the horde through the forest to the northeast. The forest quickly becomes dark and thick and wild, but the raiders followed established game trails, and the large humanoid did a good job of widening them into something more passable by horses. As you travel, you're able to get a more accurate assessment of their numbers: one large humanoid (who wears boots) and somewhere between one and two dozen goblins. And Iago finds another harpy feather. If they're all working together, it's odd coalition to be sure. There are also human sized footprints, probably three sets.

Near dusk, you find the raiders' campsite, which they apparently used both coming and going. And with two days' worth of use, it's foul enough that you travel another quarter hour upwind before bedding down. The night passes uneventfully, except the howling of some wolves in the distance, and the threatening reply of a mountain lion or two. They're apparently too concerned with protecting their territory from each other to be concerned about trespassers of the two-legged variety.

The trail continues, and after a few hours the forest opens up into large hills of the sort that lowlanders call mountains. Here the trail heads toward a particularly dark and craggy mountain, known as Mount Yamantau.

At the base of Mount Yamantau, you find something decidedly interesting. Scorch marks, harpy feathers, and some broken goblin weaponry. The earth is gouged and torn, and it appears someone ripped up a small tree for use as an impromptu greatclub. Clearly there was a battle here, but you no other tracks or spoor of anything other than from the goblins, harpy (or harpies), and the large humanoid. It looks as if the battle was not between the raiders and some sort of enemy, but among the raiders themselves.

Riding into the opening Tsaaruk stops his horse at the edge of the area where the earth is gouged and torn. Seeing the ripped up tree he takes note something powerful is among the raiders. The footprints would show it was big but to uproot a tree as a weapon that makes one take notice.

Pirvinia was not great at outdoor skills but did what she could to help the others. With the scene of a battle between the raiders, she was puzzled and kept her familiar aloft to keep watch over them.

“So in following the tracks, the potential humanoid ones could be the Weahtersmiths. My guess is the biggest one wanted the prize and the other objected.”
