I'm not saying you're wrong, but without any kind of link, and just flying in the face what was suggested in earlier discussions, I'd like to know the details.

The VTT will not be necessary for Beyond.

WotC have multiple times said that the VTT integrates Beyond. All the videos of people using the 3D VTT feature them using characters on Beyond IIRC.

Including in this article which quotes Kale Stutzman.

I guess you're presuming the 3D VTT has some kind of entirely separate character generation and updating which essentially replicates Beyond's functionality? And only optionally integrated Beyond? That's entirely possible, but I think not very clear yet. How do you think it works?

Cool visuals at what price to the DM. I tried out Talespire and it took me about 4 hours to just build an inn. Now I am sure with practise, I could get better but nothing in the experience convinced me that it was a worthwhile use of my time as a DM.

How long does it take you to draw an immersive 2d map? I think many DM will rely on using premade maps, similar to 2D.

Roll20 is currently superior but it your style is more theatre of the mind and you do not need a grid it works.

The thing with 2d is that one does not really need an immersive map, it is more a reference for tactical positioning. With 3d the visual aspect of the map will become much more important.
