Melisande frowned, not liking the choice either. She was a protector, not a slayer of good people. She studied the stricken chieftain and asked softly, “Surely, there must be another way. The easiest, even one could say this is the easiest, is often not the correct choice.”

Kalinn shakes her head in negation of Melisande's question. "I am gravely stricken, it's true. Though it's far from a surety, there is a chance I could recover from my wounds. But were I to continue my struggle to heal my people would surely perish, and Varithian would remain loose to wreak his will upon E'n." The Ha'Gruut chieftain smiles gently at the heroes before her. "It is the fact that I might yet recover that makes this choice possible. Were my death from this wound a certainty, there would be no true sacrifice and my soul could not be brought into the blade to join that of my Honored Ancestor.

"And yet, death is a certainty for us all in the end. I choose this death, that my end might accomplish the task for which my people were forged."

Melisande was solemn as Kalinn explained her sacrifice and what it must mean. As much as the paladin would not want to kill the great chieftain, she was beginning to trust that it was the only way to defeat the scourge.

Her voice was soft as she nodded, “I see.”

“It is a great thing that you do. Were there enough stalwart allies to come to your tribe's aid, I would suggest another way. But no amateurs would help and heroes of our caliber tend to be rare.”


Despite becoming to resigned to the idea, Melisande did not want to do the deed of ending Kalinn's suffering herself though.

Solomon grips her hands to stop them trembling. She was fine with facing any sort of monster head on without a care in the world. What she was far less fine with was executiing a heroine... even if it was a for an important reason. The ranger should have been here to do this! He got us into this... and he is her freind! thought the blademistress bitterly as she lowered her head avoiding Kalinn's gaze. With a deep sigh of resignation she muttered, "Your blade... after we do this... one of us is meant to weild your blade? The one who weilds the blade should be the one to ... to do what you ask." That seemed to remove Heinrich from the equation unfortunately, leaving only her and Melisande. "I fight with a light and swift blade..." she muttered trying to discard herself from the equation as well, although she immediately felt guilty for doing so. But Melisande was a knight, a paladin... much more fitting to weild a legendary blade, right...? and weren't paladins meant to be all about making sacrifices for others. Sol looked up at the paladin meaningfully as if to say: "Aren't you the obvious choice to wield Kalinn's legendary sword against our foe?"

Melisande glanced towards Sol with an arched eyebrow, hearing the woman essentially say “no it,” and leave deed up to her. She was resigned that the situation was what it was and she could very well be the only logical choice among the three companions.

Her voice was a sarcastic mutter, “Really? Thank you for that.”

She looked to Kalinn for confirmation of the need for the blade’s wielder to do the deed, hoping that there was another in the village that could end their Chieftain’s life.

Kalinn smiles once more at Sol's exclamation. "I had indeed hoped to see my friend Aradra once more before my passing. But fate, it seems, is not witih me in this decision." Her clear gaze meets each of yours for a moment, weighing your doubts, before she swallows and continues.

For my spirit's passing, it matters not who wields the blade as it pierces me. But Hafísbita is particular; Mynhear was a creature of order and good, and for those who do not meet his standards simply holding the blade can be... painful. It will not damage you - not past your releasing the hilt - but it is not pleasant. I am asking that one of you perform this unpleasant task to spare my people the burden... most of them have known me since my childhood, and have either helped raise me or have grown up with me.

"Further, though they have been told what is to happen and that the choice is mine, the one of them who did the deed would struggle for acceptance for the rest of his days with the Ha'Gruut. You are like to have little contact with my people after this adventure, and so this will present little difficulty for you."

after a moment of thought he digs in his pack for something, but for long at all. It seems the item is right on the top so grins as he picks of a scroll tube.

"I wish shopping was as goot as this pack."

He removes paper, ink and a pen and smiling warmly he asks, "Will you tell him by writing to him? we can try and get your last words to him when we return."
