D&D 5E [OOC] A Light Hearted Princes of Elemental Evil Hack and Slash

Damien happens to understand making complicated life decisions when you have a devil literally watching over your shoulder. He hopes to convince Ned that he will have a devil watching over his shoulder. :D

Of all the options, I'd go with Option 1 for now. That may change depending on what Ned has to say, although I doubt he is privy to much if there is anything screwy going on at the Keep. Shoalar or Pyke would probably better sources of information, but... stabbity/blasty. I just don't know how long we could expect the ship or the goods to stay there. If the caravan never showed up at Summit Hall, our road leads north, towards Beliard and away from the boat.

This is what happens when I go out for lunch; I go for one hour and have pages of catching up to do! I'm definitely not complaining ;-)

Thaliss put a penalty to the Genasi's wis score because I was expecting us to capture and interrogate him. It makes very much sense that Thaliss would transfer the curse to the deck hand, and it would also be wis. Also, he can assist Damien with the interrogation (or vice versa, since he has a +7 to both intimidation and persuasion) and use his telepathy and silent image to enhance the experience.

Now, the "something" that was handed to Grimshaw could be the "mote of elemental earth" that we are looking for. Also, since the masked guys had prisoners/slaves, perhaps the way to go to fulfill our mission is back to the keep and then the temple.
I'm tempted to say that we should head back to the other shore so nothing seems fishy, and then go back to the keep to figure out what Grimshaw was given. Thoughts?
Cheers,

SG

PS: I'l totally digging the pace of this game!

Creamsteak, I just realised that I've been using the wrong spell attack modifier (+6) and it should be +7. This comes from the fact that my fist character iteration was a human with 18 cha, vs the final version of a half elf with 20. I'll correct my char. sheet.
Cheers,

I'm a bit afraid I might be going too fast at times, because I could be more detailed and colorful with descriptions. I have been in the past. But as I said at the beginning, I'm trying to learn the game system and I'm also trying to keep pushing things forward. I'm glad the momentum is appreciated.

Alright, so let's consider our knowns:

- The last place the Mirabaran caravan was seen was Beliard, a town northeast of Red Larch.

- They were headed to Summit Hall, an abbey due south of Beliard, albeit through the Sumber Hills.

- We found graves containing corpses connected to Mirabar south-east of Red Larch, west of the Dessarin river.

- Mirabar is a dwarven kingdom to the hella north, so it's likely the corpses were part of the caravan.

- We know a strange group traveled across the river from east to west with dwarf and human captives.

- They paid their way with ancient dwarven tomes and apparently a gemstone, stuff dwarves would carry.

- The strange group wore masks associated with the people residing in the Monastery west of Rivergard.

- Rivergard Keep is apparently run by thieves and scoundrels.

Alright, from that, I feel we can probably deduce that the captives we heard about are likely part of the caravan we're trying to find. The question is, is it the entire caravan or did they just take some hostages? Additionally, how did some of the corpses end up all the way where the shallow graves were? It's well past the Monastery, presuming that's where they were headed. At this point, we can only guess that the gem that was given to Grimjaw was the Mote of Earth. Honestly, I feel like we probably should keep heading the way we were heading and go to Summit Hall to find out if anyone escaped the ambush. They may have more information that would help us understand the lay of the land... or it could be a useless trip if no one escaped.

Thanks for the summary Forged Fury!

I`m open to moving on to Summit Hall, but the one thing I would add is that the people at Rivergard Keep definitely know about the caravan & we were quickly escorted out of the keep.
Whatever we decidde, I definitely would want on capitalize on the fact we have loot and a boat to sell.
I`m open to following the group`s consensus of moving on, and also really like your idea of perhaps getting Lars to do the selling for us as we continue adventuring.
Cheers,

SG

Sounds good, let's wait for everyone to weigh in with ideas. I'm not 100% for Summit Hall, but I also don't feel like we have enough information to start kicking in doors.

Oh, one thing... in order to cast Silent Image, you would have to drop concentration on Hex. Concentration is a big balancing tool for 5E.

I still think that sending this bandit off on his lonesome is a good way to lose treasure and put Riverguard Keep on high alert, but Tolan will not stand against a united group. I feel that leaving the hides hidden on a boat for (potentially) weeks tendays is a "likely to lose treasure" versus trusting the bandit being "certain to lose treasure".

If the decision is made to use Lars as an agent, Tolan may see if, for example, a single bundle is small/light enough for him to lug through the hills on his own back.

It doesn't really matter to me, I was just trying to be creative. I was even going to write up a letter in Infernal and have him sign it in blood. ;) But if we just want to kill him once we get the information we need out of him and try to hide the boat after that, I'm not opposed. I'm honestly not sure if we can pilot the boat anyway. If we can talk him into piloting the boat, Damien can do his best to impersonate Shoalar if we decided to head to Womford to sell the goods, but it seems to put us well off our contracted mission.
