But(!) if I'll be brutally honest for a second, as time goes by and I don't get my regular fix of OOTS, my need for it is subsiding. I don't feel as excited, and since I don't really expect any more to see 3 strips a week, I only check the site once a week or so.

How about you? do you feel a bit "over it"? just to make clear, this is not accusatory or being spiteful or negative in any way, just reality as I see it

The OOTS receptors in your brain are dying, like what happens when cut off from any other addictive thing.

I don't think RB did himself any favours by making OOTS a 3-a-week strip, and I do miss the regular updates. I still click the link dutifully every morning to see if it's there though.

The OOTS strips have been coming further and further apart recently. I'm a big fan and I read Rich's announcement about his medical condition and really wish him all the best!

It's gone through a Cerebus Syndrome, where webcomics and some other media often go from humor to plot and drama. Some people miss the humor, and others are more interested in the drama (which is why, I think, people get angry when spells work very differently from the way they're supposed to; drama is sacrificed for comedic effect). I tink I like the drama aspect better but the comic was becoming more dramatic only when Miko appeared, and she didn't make the strip better (IMO). Now that she's dead, the party is split and one main member is not only dead, he's not coming back soon. I recall a thread complaining, during the Miko storyline, that Roy had been in more strips without his sword than with it, that Haley's inability to talk was extremely irritating, etc. In most kinds of fiction, "Status Quo Is God" but that rule seems to be forgotten here.

This is the part where the players starts screaming at the elf for not learning teleport.

I thought that Vaarsuvius had dropped Necromancy and Conjuration to become an evocation specialist? Though I suppose players could still yell about that decision. To be fair to Vaarsuvius, though, teleport was in the school of transmutation in 3rd edition, and Vaarsuvius wasn't choosing to drop it then. Maybe it will be back in 4th, and the elf will save the day!

So what's the name of the syndrome when a tv show starts out dramatic and plot based and descends into series of comedic episodes with no point? I see that all the time:)
"Anime". ;)

I'm pretty sure they've done that joke already ... I wish I could remember where!

Jumping the shark. Anytime a series gives up its core premise to pander to the whims of executives and/or a fickle fan-base, it has jumped the shark.
