And, yes, this can lead to some insane amounts of damage being dished out on a crit. Beware berserk barbarians bearing battle-axes.

It's not whether it's an effect, it's whether the damage bonus is expressed as dice or as a flat number. A damage bonus that's +1, +2, +3, etc. is multiplied on a critical hit. A damage bonus that's +1d6, +2d4, etc. is not.
