Robin D Laws' 7 player-types. Which are you?

I'm definitely a tactician. I always focus on the problem to be solved, to the exclusion of all else; when I am confronted with one that can't be solved, I get VERY frustrated.

I'm also a method actor. I'm always making up more background and stuff for my character.

To tell the truth, I'm a much better DM than player. I don't have enough control over anything when I'm a player, and I keep overstepping my boundaries.

I'm the worst possible combination - Tactican/PowerGamer.

Believe it or not, I am not disruptive as most would consider this combination to be - but I am 'Hell on Wheels' for the DMs.

My DM gets frustrated with me. I analyse the situation and frequently come up with some very inventive methodology for dealing with situations, which forces the DM to do some very hasty and serious impromptu contingency planning to deal with 'the option unseen or never taken'.

But as the DM has said to me out of game - 'You keep me on my toes' or 'Its always a learning experience for me when you get inventive'

Buttkicker 5 / Power Gamer 3 / Storyteller 1. :p

I like this style of answer. So I'll steal it:

Buttkicker3/Power Gamer 3/Tactician3/Storyteller 2

I don't see a point in being a power gamer without also wanting to have battles...I mean, what's the point of finally gaing that Whirlwind Attack/Great Cleave combo without getting a chance to wade into a sea of weak foes? :p

I also like solving problems and if there isn't at least some semblance of a viable story-line, then I fail to see a point.

A follow up question: What type annoys you the most?

For me, method-actors and Casual Gamers are about equal...sure, CG's are annoying because they fall asleep, refuse to learn the rules or come up with a course of action more complex or interesting than "I swing...what die do I roll again?" But method actors slow things down too much for my taste...They remind me of the guy in Monty Python's Life of Brian: "Don't you want to haggle?" Just buy the damn gord and let us get on with the adventure already!!! ;)

Storyteller/specialist.

I like foiling the plans of Evil Villains.

I always seem to end up playing spellcasters, partly because I'm okay with making hole-filler characters. No cleric? Fine, I'll roll one up. The party needs more firepower? One mage coming right up. Works for me.

Wouldn't this make you more of a generalist?(or do you specialize at being general?) I tend to be the same way...I'll play whatever we need. I've yet to find a (core rules) class(or some combination of them) that I couldn't make into an enjoyable character...and that even includes the dreaded ranger(which so many claim to be broken).

One guy in our group always plays a rogue. Always. The others make barbarians, fighters or paladins. The party always needs to be rounded out by a spellslinging type. I may be a generalist when it comes to spellcasters, but I almost always play them.

The guys in the group are all a combination of buttkicker, tactician and method actor. I'm the one that balances out the testosterone by specializing in characters who can be the party face and/or peacekeeper.

I think i'd be an almost pure storyteller.

I love games that have detailed characters. I don't care how powerful or effective a character is as long as he is well thought out and vibrant. I hate hack and slash games.
