"It matters not why she wants to meet us, we will find out soon enough why. For now just relax and enjoy dinner or some libation. Who knows when we will have this opportunity again. I am looking forward to sleeping in a bed tonight. A soft bed no less!" She enjoys the food and drink before her while chatting with her friends.

"Kenebres is just cleanup now," Thorn opines. She chews, and swallows, then goes on.

"It's easy enough going house to house, rooting out what's left of the cultists, but we're too valuable to waste on that kind of thing now. Whatever was in the wardstones went into us...the way I see it, that means we're the replacement for the 'stones. Now it's our job to hold back the demons."

For such a big job, she didn't sound like she found it disagreeable.

"My guess is that they want us on the offense now. The demons will be in disarray after what happened...the generals will need time to scare the rank and file back into submission. Good time to strike back."

She shrugged and tore into her chicken leg again.

"Offense, or active defense. If we are the replacement for the ward stone as you say, then perhaps it is within us to rebuild it, or in some other way replace it and hold the rift in check. Minimize the demonic incursions." suggests Denir.

Eventually Jack stirs from his nap. The water has turned a bit tepid, but he is feeling quite refreshed. He looks around, sees that he is alone, and then gets out in order to dry off. He grabs Bessy and heads back to his room, where it appears his uniform has been laundered in the meantime, though not enough time has passed for it to dry off. That does not bother him too much though. The crusader dresses and heads downstairs for some grub. It appears he arrives just after the Captain's announcement, but the food appears to still be plentiful so he helps himself. That should keep him occupied for a while.

As the appointed hour approaches, Captain DeVrees enters the common room to personally escort you to The Queen's quarters. The Captain tries to make some small talk as he walks you to a room upstairs but it is clear he is not used to such duties and you almost feel bad for him being so far out of his element tonight.

"The Queen never takes room at an Inn but she wanted to make every effort for you to feel at ease and when we discovered several of you oft frequent this...establishment, she truly put us all on our ears when she instructed us to make this our base of operations during our time here. Never seen anything like it I haven't...but then again, nothing like this has ever happened before so I guess it's all as it should be. Word is the demons are focusing most of their attacks to the south and this is as far north as we intend to go. Kenabres is a very different city now...whereas before the attack it boasted a population of 12,300 souls, it barely has 6,520 now, even after some who fled have returned. It just feels broken...empty."

After ascending the inn's staircase and passing several guards who quickly hide various military contraband when they see their Captain, they quickly stiffen to attention and hold their stare straight ahead. The captain leads you to the room at the very end of the hall whose door is not on either side of the hall but on the end wall. He turns to make sure all of your group has made it here. When satisfied, he knocks. The door soon opens and Queen Galfrey is revealed beyond the threshold. She nods to Devress and he walks back the way he came. She looks at each of you, holding your gaze a bit longer than you feel comfortable with, then moves back and fully opens the door. "Please come in."

As you enter this room, it is clear this is not merely a room. It is much larger and looks to be purposed as a small meeting room. There is a curtained off area off to the side where you can partially see a bed and dresser and you get the feeling The Queen is actually not only sleeping here but also running the show from here. She motions to a round table with chairs and asks you to have a seat. The table seats 12 and in the center is a pitcher of wine and another of water. There are currently eight empty glasses at various spots and one other that is full of water. If each of you take a seat, she seats herself at the spot with the glass of water. "Feel free to fill your glass with your choosing, I want you to feel comfortable. I know meeting with me might be unnerving but I had to hear your story from your own lips as I fear some of the tales I have heard of your adventures may have been...inflated. So please tell me what you remember since the ward stones collapsed. I don't need all the details but if what I have hear of you is true, it would be most helpful if you could verse me on what exactly has happened to each of you that has the town talking so about you." She pauses and does not continue.

Meliara pours herself a glass of wine and sips at it while the Queen speaks. Suddenly the Queen is quiet and staring intently at their group.

Lia clears her throat, "Your Highness," she begins, "I am not sure any of us can tell you what exactly has happened. We do have many incredible stories to tell, I myself would not believe most of them if I had not experienced it myself. It seems when the wardstones went out, well, their power was somehow channeled into each of us sitting here. We believe Iomedae herself was responsible. It also seems as if that power has somehow significantly enhanced the skills we had previous to this gift, or curse, however you see it. For example, I was previously able to manipulate magic. Just earlier today I used a spell I have used frequently since these attacks began, and it was many times more powerful than usual, I almost singed myself in the power of the explosion. Most of my friends here have skills for fighting, a couple others of us can heal, and my brother and myself can manipulate magics and we have all been affected with the advancement of our abilities.

We traveled to a tower in which we believed the cultists were using as a safehouse. We were correct. We fought some cultists there, and also the tiefling in charge, Faxon."
Lia suppresses a shiver at speaking his name, "We destroyed them all but left the tower, in case the army wanted to use it to capture more cultists and demons. We found a letter with what we believe are their next schemes and we returned to this part of the city to gather additional information in the library. The letter contains information that refers to the further destruction of the city so we need to act on this quickly. I believe Thorn you are carrying the letter?"

Lia sits back in her seat, takes a sip of wine and waits to see if someone else has something to add to the story.

"Begging your pardon, Highness, I am Sorcerer Banaq. I think that a point of clarification is in order -- Meliara, did I understand you to say that Faxon has been vanquished once and for all?"

Thorn nods and produces the letter from her pouch. She holds it out to the Queen.

"Minago," she says, as verbose as ever. "Haven't had a chance to look it up yet."

She gives Banaq a frown and adds, "He's dead. That's as vanquished as it gets."
