(ooc: I thought that was just the first spell of any spell level that you had to devote to your preferred school. Tenebrynn already picked up Scry when he hit 7th to cover that requirement.)

Let me know if my sleep-addled brain is reading this wrong (quite possible)

Spells Gained at a New Level

Wizards perform a certain amount of spell research between adventures. Each time a character attains a new wizard level, she gains two spells of her choice to add to her spellbook. The two free spells must be of spell levels she can cast. If she has chosen to specialize in a school of magic, one of the two free spells must be from her specialty school.

(So we two learn DD, and with Elektra, we have a transport capacity of 9, correct? We have to transport... Ashnar, Elektra, Fareye, Hogarth, Laynie, Rayne, Rinaldo, Tenebrynn, Vanitri, perhaps Guile? Fareye should be good with Share Spells, I believe, so unless I forgot someone, that sounds like a plan. Now to decide on my evocation spell for levelling, I guess.)

(OOC: Yep, it looks sufficient to bring any and all people you would want to bring along. Now you have to strategise how to pull that off, since you have to exit the safe zone completely (And really, the last stretch of the spiral staircase in the safe zone isn't actually safe, since Sin and the others have Line of Effect to that) before casting Dimension Door, and you are allowed to Dimension Door to the front door at best, rather than outside (you must exit through the door physically), so Sin might have more backup waiting there.)

(ooc: I've never read that. From the Wizard page in the SRD it describes the adding 2 spells to your book per level and never mentions that it changes for speciallists. As a specialist gets 1 free spell slot per spell level I've always made sure that the first time I gain a new level at least one is my school. Beyond that I've never played with that rule. I can change it for this level, but that affects many of Tenebrynn's previous wizardly levels.)

(OOC: It's a real honest-to-goodness RAW rule with no interpretation open. I ignore it in my home games because I think it silly, but I do not have that luxury in LEW. Yes, it sucks for Diviners because Divination usually doesn't have two spells even remotely useful per spell level, but Diviners already have the easy life with 1 barred school, so I'm not too concerned. Hmm, if it affects his previous levels, it does mean, at least, that the approvals judges haven't been canny enough to check for that yet. We may want to tell them in case someone else beyond the two of us actually knows the rule and flouts it on purpose, hoping not to be caught)

(ooc: I'll mention it when I submit Tenebrynn in a few minutes. I've reviewed his sheet and it only affects his 3rd level spell selection. To rectify, I'll have him purchase a new 3rd level divination at next opportunity (after the party/debauchery anyways).)

(Perhaps a wall effect (wall of ice might be better for that; I haven't sent out my character yet, though it'd be a bit out of character to choose ice over fire) to block immediate attacks on the staircase, would likely mean someone has to go down there, though. If we all have two DDs, we might be able to run out the round after DDing, to avoid some more attacks outside.)

(ooc: ahha! I found out why I've never seen that rule, its not in 3.0. Its an addition in 3.5. There are plenty of sections in 3.5 I've never read that didn't typically change. One added line in the Magic Overview section is definitely an example of that. In any case, I'll work to make Tenebrynn as compliant as possible.

Re: Plan, Tenebrynn's got 2 Prot from Energys for those who will be down first to cast. He'll also cast Mirror Image on himself. That should provide a little protection. Too bad I couldn't set up the Globe as I'd hoped. ))

(OOC: Yeah, it may have been specifically aimed at Diviners, since 3.5 upped the ante on everyone except Diviners (including the poor forlorn Necromancer). I really liked the 3.0 barred school system of tiers. In 3.5, I kept it almost the same as 3.0 in my home games, except that Necromancers could no longer choose only Divination--everything else stayed the same)
