Confronting The Ruffians

OOC: pathfinderq1, are you still with us?

OOC: I'm pushing forward slightly to get to the actual confrontation, skipping past the tracking them down part of things.

Castagyr arrives at the Green Griffon tavern and learns that the strange group had been there earlier, questioned a gnoll named N'Grath, then left for Brown District. A fellow dragonborn, Rhal by name, had overheard and sympathized with Castagyr's plight. He, too, had been on the receiving end of G'Kar's machinations earlier that night. Although he was scheduled to leave on a boat heading back to the Dragonborn islands later the next day, Rhal regretted not being able to say goodbye to Amisi and her companions. He considered them to be fine folk who could use a strong dragonborn at their side.

It is nearly dawn by the time the group finds themselves at a Brown District boarding house. They had talked to N'Grath, found a witness to the attack on Lenya near an alley, and had finally gotten a break when a Lurker (one of the homeless people in Brown District) had pointed out where the ruffians lived when not working the docks, in exchange for a gold piece (OOC: someone will need to deduct a gold piece from their character sheet).

Castagyr is a little less than a block away when he spots Amisi and her cohorts. A group of dock workers emerges from a boarding house, their sunbaked and ugly leader spitting on the ground near the elf, Lenya.

"You ain't learned your lesson last night so you bring your friends, eh?"

Amisi, Korgon, and the others notice right away that the odds are no longer in their favor. The group of ruffians has expanded to nearly a dozen, all of them rough and tumble and looking for a fight, some of the wielding clubs.

Felix suspects that someone tipped the ruffians off. They are far too organized and ready for a fight.

Castagyr, from his vantage point, notices a man watching the proceedings from a second story balcony, with a crossbow pointed at the female human mage.

Korgon takes a look around the group and sees a few face he recognizes. "The boats are going to get unloaded kinda slow for a few days Felix, what with all the broken bones these stevedores will have. Except for him" Korgon points to the leader, "You I am going to kill and leave you gutted and rotting on the docks like a too-small flounder." Korgon takes out his axe and leans casually on it. He address the crowd again. "Hard to get paid from dead man. Hell, hard to get paid iff'n your dead. So either way it don't look like you bilge rats is gettin' paid." chuckles Korgon.

Edit: That is an intimidation check but IC is down, so I will let you roll Kira.

First Post
As soon as they set out, Lenya had pulled her hood back up, and set the veil across her face once more. Her longbow was strung, and in hand, but she had not drawn any of the arrows from her quiver.

Contrary to her timid, almost mousy, mannerisms and speech she moved through the streets with the relaxed grace of a wolf- she led the group back to the site of her earlier encounter quickly, with no hesitation despite the unfamiliar speech. Once they moved on from there, she dropped back, letting those more familiar with the city take the lead.

As soon as they found their quarry, she reached back and drew her first arrow- though with only crude weapons on display amongst the ruffians, she did not yet set the shaft to string. Even as the ruffians spilled out into the street and began to spread out, she began to move slowly backwards, maintaining a distance that favored her bow over the ruffians' clubs. "Say rather that I have learned my lesson from last night, and that is why I brought others with me this time, that we might repay the lesson in kind." Her voice was still calm and soft, but it carried well enough. Would these fools actually be foolish enough to bring violence against the city's own constables, and the legendary Mage Corps?, she wondered.

Veer looks around in alarm at the large number of armed men. He takes a step behind Korgon, looking worried.

"There's, um, quite a lot of them," he says quietly. "Maybe this isn't such a good idea after all.". Nonetheless he has one hand on the hilt of his coutari, just in case.

Castagyr saw the potential battle unfolding down the street. So far he was unnoticed as the assassin was aiming down at the female mage. Opportunity had come. While it might not be chivalrous to attack the assassin from surprise, it was certainly going to fulfill his duty to his lord.

He drew a javelin from his quiver and flung it at the crossbowman on the balcony.

“Hey! You do not want to fire that weapon!” he called as the shaft flew upwards, apparently on target.

Amisi says in a sweet voice, "Awww, come on, you don't really want to fight us, now do you? We're all off duty for the night. Of course, we could just call in our friends, the other city guards and mage corps..."

"Do not worry Veer. A shark does not fear a school of smelt, though they circle around him" replies Korgon over his should to Veer.

Veer nods, and stands a bit straighter.

"You look like you make a fine shark," he says, "and you'll put these minnows to flight no problem.".

OOC: Inspiration die (d6) to Korgon.

Some of the dock workers step back a pace at Korgon's words, but their leader doesn't back down. He merely sneers.

Everyone's attention is suddenly drawn to the crossbow wielder on the balcony as a javelin pierces his side just as he was about to shoot Amisi. His crossbow bolt goes wide, thunking into a wall several feet from the mage.

The leader of the ruffians curses and then shouts, "Kill the mages!"

They surge forward...

OOC: Roll initiative!

Those with proficiency in Arcana or Insight (Veer, Markus and Castagyr) please also roll an Insight check. Since Veer has proficiency in both, he has Advantage on the roll.
