Not going to argue what you want to do in your game. But 1s on skill checks in 4e to not auto fail. The DC is all that's needed to meet. If the base mod meets or exceeds the DC, the skill automatically works, takes effect, etc. In combat, 1s are auto misses, though.

If I missed that in your game skill check 1s are the same, I apologize I missed it :) Since the DC to pop 2nd wind is a 10 for a lvl 1 character and Cinara has a +9 mod, even a 1 would work (she's that good).

GM: I didn't know that, and now I've just looked it up and can't find anything other than '1' always misses an attack- you are correct. Don't bother rolling in future.

Finally the enemies drew nearer, but times were growing desparate. Perhaps it was this desparation that meant Kazzagin couldn't quite connect with his blow. The battleaxe swung powerfully at the creature, glowing with the holy might of Pelor, but merely glanced off the goblin's armor as the cunny little creature shifted out of the way at the last moment. Kazzagin was desparate to get the attention away from Krogan. "You be dying, now, goblin. Surrender or I be putting your head on a spike." The challenge would get the craven creature's attention.
