Zhen meditates for a moment, and then is ready for whatever assails the group next.

More hours pass. At first it was difficult to rest with the presence, and noises, of the undead outside, but you've become somewhat accustomed to it. The sky is getting lighter; dawn can't be too far away.

And then you hear a curious new sound: the rhythmic *whump whump whump* of displaced air. It starts off faint, but rapidly becomes louder. You peer out the cracks in the doors and walls and see nothing. And then you look up through the massive wholes in the ceiling, and see the source.

The corpse of a large dragon hovers above the chapel on tattered wings. It doesn't land so much as collapse through the remnants of the roof, but it hits the ground on all fours, and doesn't seem concerned by the impact. With a casual flick of its tail it tears the main doors off their hinges and sends them flying into the mass outside. You hear the horde moan hungrily as they surge towards this new aperture. The dragon bellows at you, and even from across the room you can smell the rank decay on its breath.

Raijin reacts a bit slower than his allies, he reaches into his robe to redraw his dagger. Pointing it towards the sky he calls down the morning stars in the sky at the dragon. However the rubble next to the beast is all that is struck by the powerful barrage. He moves forward to get a better view but not too close.

Empathy takes a step forward to get within range - but also moves to the wall, to avoid bunching up with her companions against such a creature - and then unleashes the full force of her ability. A huge blast of mental energy rips into the zombie dragon and tiny holes appear in its flesh. It becomes so distracted its guard is lowered against all attackers.

Emboldened by her success, she pushes herself further and repeats her attack, tearing into the dragon once again. She yells to her companions, "Now!"

Lily looked at the shambling remains of the dragon with wide eyes, something between fear and awe danced therein. She took a stumbling step back before gathering her wits and planting her feet. With a gesture her shadow raced across the broken floor of the ruined temple to spring up before the draconic monstrosity. Lith bloomed from the ground all teeth and eyes, snapping at failing flesh, it's half substantial form finding purchase in the dead thing. Those slavering jaws rippling across the shadow's flowing mass not otherwise occupied howled in silent triumph.

[sblock=Lily's Spirit Primer (Please Read!)] Spirit companions are complex critters, so this is to remind everyone, myself included, of the important points. The first three items are probably the most relevant to the other players.
  • Any of Lily's allies who start their turn adjacent to her spirit companion can shift 1 square as a free action, as the first action during their turn.
  • Any of Lily's allies adjacent to her spirit companion gain a +3 bonus to their damage rolls against bloodied enemies.
  • Lily's spirit companion occupies 1 square, Lily's allies may move through its space, but her enemies may not.
  • Lily's spirit companion may be targeted by melee and ranged attacks. If a single attack deals 11 or more damage to Lily's spirit companion it disappears and Lily takes 6 damage. Otherwise her spirit companion is unaffected by the attack.
  • Lily's spirit companion uses Lily's defenses.
  • Any enemy that leaves a square adjacent to Lily's spirit companion without shifting is subject its Spirit Fang attack. (This is an opportunity action and so may used once per turn, rather than once per round. Since there is no reason not to take this attack DM please feel free to roll them as necessary.)
  • Lily's spirit companion is unaffected by terrain and environmental phenomena.

Zhen moves nearer the zombie dragon, then suddenly launches himself at it, flying through the air and delivering a kick to its shoulder.

The dragon rears up on its hind legs and reaches out towards Zhen with its claws. It pins the monk to the ground, nearly tearing him apart in the process. The dragon lunges at Zhen with its serpentine head, but at the last second Zhen is able to twist out of the way, and the dragon's head crashes into the stone floor. The creature bellows again and takes flight, ignoring the gashes Lith opens up in its flanks as it lands next to Raijin. The beast draws in a deep breath and then exhales a stream of noxious gas and vile liquids onto the sorcerer. Raijin's movements become sluggish and halted.

The two objects in R5 and R12 are very heavy unlit metal braziers. They are impassible terrain, but they aren't hard corners.

The Zombie Dragon uses Dragon's Fury against Zhen, hitting with both claw attacks for a total of 22 damage. Zhen is bloodied and gets 5 thp (I remembered!). Since both claws hit the dragon gets to bite Zhen as well, but he gets a natural one.

The dragon then moves to, well, the squares it's in now. This draws opportunity attacks from Zhen and Lith, who miss and hit for 15 damage, respectively. Finally, the dragon spends an action point to breathe on Raijin, hitting with a 23 vs Reflex for 16 poison damage. Raijin is slowed, save ends. He is also bloodied.

What a swingy set of rolls. 16, 14, 1, 1, 17, 19.[/sblock]

Empathy attacks the dragon's mind again and is barely able to connect thanks to the fact that its guard was lowered moments ago. It is thrown slightly off and puts less effort into its attacks.

The brooch that Raijin wears glows brightly and shields him from some of the dragon's blast. The familiar electricity begins to coil around the sorcerer. He opens his mouth, but instead of a thunderous roar out comes a terrible choak. GACK He sputters and tries to move away from the dragon, but carefully.
