Lily came dashing out of the bookcases as Lith slipped around to the other side of the dragon, moving like a patch of black fog. Skidding to a halt she whirled, her battered skirt spiraling around her trying to catch up with the turning of her body. The skull in her hand flared light from its empty eyes and similar points of light briefly flashed, one below and two above each socket as she whispered. Lith's shadowy body seemed to respond in kind, strange clumps of light sparked out across its shape in insectoid and arachnid-like patterns. A multitude of segmented limbs erupted from Lith, trailing wisps of shadow in their wake, taking on enough substance to gouge into the dragon's rotted flesh. Lily continued to whisper, though the tenor of her voice changed slightly, there was a rushing sound and two ghostly shapes burst from the skull howling in rage. They rocketed through the air directly toward their target, their path taking them though Lith's body, which parted and fell back together like smoke, and then they slammed into the dragon, raking and tearing and screaming.

  • Any of Lily's allies who start their turn adjacent to her spirit companion can shift 1 square as a free action, as the first action during their turn.
  • Any of Lily's allies adjacent to her spirit companion gain a +3 bonus to their damage rolls against bloodied enemies.
  • Lily's spirit companion occupies 1 square, Lily's allies may move through its space, but her enemies may not.
  • Lily's spirit companion may be targeted by melee and ranged attacks. If a single attack deals 11 or more damage to Lily's spirit companion it disappears and Lily takes 6 damage. Otherwise her spirit companion is unaffected by the attack.
  • Lily's spirit companion uses Lily's defenses.
  • Any enemy that leaves a square adjacent to Lily's spirit companion without shifting is subject its Spirit Fang attack. (This is an opportunity action and so may used once per turn, rather than once per round. Since there is no reason not to take this attack DM please feel free to roll them as necessary.)
  • Lily's spirit companion is unaffected by terrain and environmental phenomena.

The dragon has difficulty turning around between the two bookcases. So instead it twists its neck around to exhale a torrent of corrosive gases at the attackers behinds it. Apparently the creature's throat has been damaged, for the gas comes out in a concentrated stream rather than a cloud. Unfortunately for Zhen, the stream is aimed directly at him, and he collapses.

By now the dragon has managed to twist itself around, and it slashes through the black mist that is Lith. The strange creature is not able to hold on to its physical form, and it disperses.

Momentarily freed from distractions, the dragon backs out of the aisle and stomps its way over towards Empathy. You notice that one wing and one of its legs are being dragged uselessly. This zombie can't take much more punishment. Of course, it still might have enough strength to drag you all down with it.

The zombie dragon breathes on Zhen and Lily. It crits Zhen and gets a natural one for Lily. Crazy distribution on these rolls. Zhen takes 22 damage, taking him down to -9. Thank goodness for those thp. Zhen is also slowed, save ends, but that seems less important now.

The dragon then spends its second AP to attack Lith. The first attack misses, the second one, naturally, crits, popping Lith. Lily takes 6 from the backlash.

The dragon finishes its turn by moving to where it is now.[/sblock]

Lily squeaked in pain as her shadow vanished under the dragons claws once more, but did not stumble. Taking a deep breath she began to whisper under her breath again. Shadow began to coalesce next to the decaying bulk of the dragon, at the same time a shining, silvery mist formed around Lily which then drifted over Zhen, merging with him.

That done she turned her attention more fully to the dragon, the eyes of skull she carried flared and Lith fell upon the beast like a pack of black hounds, a half dozen snapping jaws taking chunks here and there from the dragon's decaying hide.

As the dragon draws closer, Empathy allows a faint smile to cross her face. "Finally."

Before the dragon can close the final distance, suddenly it is pulled by an unseen force even closer to Empathy. As it arrives right next to her, her body begins to vibrate and suddenly explodes into a million tiny crystal shards. They swarm around the dragon, confusing it for a moment, until they fly a few feet away and reconstitute themselves into Empathy. Taking advantage of the dragon's distraction, she once again blasts it with a powerful wave of psychic force, slamming into its mind with all her might.

Zhen, opening his eyes, momentarily not sure what happened, quickly remembers the blast from the dragon. He then stands up, bows to Lily, and gets some space between him and the dragon. Finally, his legs start to lose some of their stiffness.

Still somewhat dazed, the dragon limps after Empathy. It bites at her with decayed teeth, but she dodges out of the way.

Raijin recovers quickly from his miss and swings his dagger in an arc from ceiling to floor. The heavens seem to fall and strike the beast, burning off almost all of it's limbs and remaining wings, leaving it ready for a final blow.

Empathy takes a quick step back after the lightning bolt strikes, and then focuses on the beast a final time. With but a glance, the creature's mind is shattered, and it falls to the floor.
