D&D 5E Upcoming D&D Tidbits: Phandelver, Book of Many Things, Venger, & More!

Find out more about 2023's D&D plans

D&D Beyond has shared some more tidbits of information about upcoming products, including this summer's new Phandelver campaign, and information about Vecna, Planescape, and spring's Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants, and more.

Here are the highlights:
  • In the 2024 Vecna adventure, you will visit various worlds.
  • Art by Brian Valezer and Kent Davis from fall 2023's Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants was shared (see below), along with art from the Phandelver campaign by José Manzanedo. There was additional art from Planescape and more which you can see in the video.
  • The new Phandelver book will include the existing adventure Lost Mines of Phandelver in the first half and then continue on to higher levels from there.
  • They're reimagining Planescape for today's audience--honouring the roots then expanding.
  • More cards are being added to the Deck of Many Things in winter 2023's Book of Many Things. A new product type--a deck of cards and an accompanying book. The book digs into the history of the deck and its cosmic place as a force of chaos. It contains player and DM content.
  • Venger, the villain from the 1980s D&D cartoon who will be featuring in an upcoming storyline and WotC's Chris Perkins might have hinted he is actually a Red Wizard--'a redder Red Wizard' was the phrase used.
  • Many of the various bad guys in the League of Malevolence appeared in the D&D cartoon series -- Kelek, Warduke, etc.

Pushing 38 later this year! I'm already starting to get those "wow, I wasn't Vornado yet" conversations about events still very present in my mind with adults, lol.

I'm currently really digging what WotC has been laying down, so I pay attention to their social media accounts, and my memory is rather good. Speculating on what they are up to is almost a second hobby for me.
Its funny, I can remember the most obscure piece of information from 25-30 years ago but I'll be dammed if I can remember what I did yesterday let alone 20 minutes ago. Segue, this is why I have trouble remembering the class options in 5E. Its not a bad game just me getting older and needing something rules light so Im looking forward to ShadowDark.

Deck of many things based adventure around the same time pathfinder is releasing an AP centering around the Harrow Deck. Second time the big two are having matching theme APs lol.

The less important yhe information, the easier it is for me to remember.
Between the COVID-19 pandemic and going on permanent disability, the last three years really took a toll on the psyche. Its strange how when you have no schedule and minimal responsibilities how quick the brain atrophies. I find it hard to concentrate, read, and just retain information in general. I bought a Nintendo Switch last month to kickstart my brain, as I live alone I need to find something to occupy the 95% of my time when no one is around hanging out.

Video games are pretty good for that, actually.

I'm at a stage in life when there is basically always someone literally, physically jumping on my back like they are training to be in the toddler WWE, so my toll during the pandemic has been more physical.
