Just FWIW, there are actually 2 types of music called "garage" that are related to house music. I think one of them (the UK variant) was actually named after the same reasons as your joke (the US version was named after the club it was played at, the same way "house" got its name).

Tough to say. There are some genres that stand out a bit but there's none that I'm strongly devoted to. I like rock and some metal but a lot of the music I like defies easy categorization. Bjork, Nick Cave and Led Zepplin round out the top three musical groups/artists I like.
It's easier to find music I don't like, which includes 92% of music ever played but mostly hip-hop and country. There are exceptions in these two categories but they are very, very rare.
