He takes a lot of the blame for stuff that is decided by those higher up the food chain.

Doesn't matter to me. I was talking yesterday with one of my FLGS owners and he brought up the period where Wizards ruined the competitive system, many of the formats, and essentially the whole ecosystem.

Maro and Forsythe were captains on this ships, and I will likely never get over it.

I don't know what a president of WotC does, so I don't really know who would be a good fit.

So, what does a president at WotC do?

Oversees Magic, video games and D&D
Ok. What does that mean? What does a president do when they oversee Magic, video games and D&D? What skills are important?

Economics and budgeting?
Game design?
Programming?
Human relations?
Corporate politics?
Law?
A keen sense for fashion?

Different presidents have different skill sets.

High level it’s about strategy and execution. Whatever helps there, delegate the rest.

Ok. Not really helping me understand what a president of WotC does or what skills they are expected to be good at. But thanks for answering.

EDIT: Saw your edit, that helps a little bit more.

Doesn't Mike Mearls fall into the "external creative" category that's currently in second place, lagging only behind the juggernaut of Lady Gaga? He's not actually with WotC at this point, is he?
I don't think "literally the man who was in charge until just the last few years" qualifies as an external creative.

Overall we need there to be a president who is motivates and able to advocate for the games and players as long term strategies that should not be sacrificed for short term stock bumps.
