D&D 5E Experiences with a level 6 Bard/level 4 Warlock (planning to take a 5th level of Warlock next) and a piece of epic verse...

Hey everyone. There is a lot of talk about multiclassing in these forums. Often, with spellcasting levels, the question is whether it makes sense to multiclass in a manner that drops your maximum spell level. As a level 6 Bard/4 Warlock, despite being a level 10 character, my max spell level is 3. Nonetheless, the character has been extremally effective. It is a hexblade warlock with the pact of the blade and a lore bard. Between being able to use my Charisma as my primary stat for both my melee attacks and my spells, booming blade, spiritual weapon, and spirit guardians, an AC of 20 (with a +2 magic shield, medium armor, and a 14 Dex) and the Shield spell, my character is a front line attack soaker with quite decent support damage. For anyone thinking about multiclassing, consider your synergies. There are ways to build great characters that don't match with common dogma or suggestions (though they do take a little more forethought to build).

In any case, our group had a pretty big battle last game. As my character is playing the group's (hex) skald, I wrote a few lines of epic inspired verse. I'm not too happy with the pattern of stressed syllables in the second half of each line. They are a little too sloppy for my tastes, but as I usually work with lyric inspired avant-garde free verse, I accepted this as a first effort. My DM liked it and granted our group the ability to take one short rest in 5 minutes instead of an hour along with inspiration as a gift from the gods after I presented it to our group. I thought I would share. Enjoy!

I Invoke this story // in Time of Tempus:
Praised is the Power // in Valkur’s Vains
Blood of the Brave // who brought Talos down on Tyre,
Severing the Tryants head in Temple, // unholy sacrilege in Bloody Glory.
Driven first by Base Instinct, // They thought to hide their Heads,
But Tempus Tempted, // and Petty lord of shackled Shame,
A Demonic Diversion, // This was placed in Path.

Our first hero, Jove laid Claim // to Frostmaiden’s breath and Fame;
Oh great Cone of Cold, // of Tyrant’s servants dying Told.
Sariel, in this sequence of Hoar, // entered with Heavy Hate;
Revenge rose like Bloody Flowers // from Dismembering Strokes
Of which only She and She alone // in Cold Beauty compared.
Not to be outdone by Auril’s Kin, // Alistair let loose wooden Shaft,
Each Shot Shivering, // and Moments trembled embedded in the Slain.
Next came Novo from Nowhere, // fists spitting Death from Darkness;
In faces Never Foretold, // his movements Swift, Bold.
Finally, this Humble Skald // entered with Sword Severing,
For indeed, I was There // singing to Spiritual Champions,
That They might notice Us // that we might join Their Ranks.

About Us died acolytes // we divined Their Dirge.
Iron Masks fared no better, // the Pounding Beat,
Their Fists faded // our drums demanded Bloody Sacrifice.
Gargoyles Gurgled // from Dust to Dust they returned.
Last, the Lord of Shackles, // his soul now Shackled to this Tale;
Suffering Angry Axe, // thrown with Bloody Blessing,
Stroke of Sword, // downswing of Hoar’s revenged Hate,
Fist after Fist, // a flurry foretelling a Fate Decisive,
Spirited Spells, // Jove and I chanting Deadly Dictate,
Until Magic Missile, // forming a Final Ellipse,
Ends this Unending Assault, // Jove finishing the Tyrant’s Tale…

This is Our Story, // this Vicious Victory.
For Tempus and Valkur, // the Dead I do Dedicate.
