Medium Armor type?

Hmm, I guess I'll take a shot at this. I think I can squeeze in a medium armor at about every proficiency level, save hide.


4E MEDIUM ARMORS

Padded Proficiency: Cloth
Thickly sewn, both comfortable and protective, this armor is no more complicated to use as normal clothes. It is somewhat difficult to move around in, however.
+1 AC, -1 Check, half stat bonus to AC, no speed reduction, 15 lbs
Paragon Tier: +3, Epic Tier +5

Studded Leather Proficiency: Leather armor
This metal reinforced leather affords greater protection, but weighs more and is far less flexible
+3 AC, -1 Check, half stat bonus to AC, no speed reduction, 25 lbs
Paragon Tier: +5, Epic Tier +7

Chain Shirt Proficiency: Chain Mail
Being the same material as chain mail but not covering the limbs, this armor is far easier to move around in. It does not protect nearly as well, however.
+4 AC, -1 Check, half stat bonus to AC, no speed reduction, 30 lbs
Paragon Tier: +6, Epic Tier +8

Ring Mail Proficiency: Scale Mail
Covered in large interlaced metal rings instead of solid pieces, this armor offeres greater flexibilty and reaction speed, at the cost of some defensive ability.
+5 AC, -0 Check, half stat bonus to AC, -1 speed reduction, 35 lbs
Paragon Tier: +7, Epic Tier +9

Breast Plate Proficiency: Plate Mail
While minimizing the weight of all but the most vital areas, this armor affords as much defense as possible while allowing some deftness.
+6 AC, -2 Check, half stat bonus to AC, -1 speed reduction, 40 lbs
Paragon Tier: +8, Epic Tier +10

I'm going by what the module says. Remember Dragons of Despair is the very first module and therein it says ringmail. I guess he trades up later on. Then he becomes an alcoholic and then bare-chested gladiator.

I was waiting for someone else to try this first and am fairly pleased with your results, a couple comments though. I'm not sure if they all should be considered "medium" armor.

I would give full stat bonus to Padded (otherwise it will get no use) and none to Breastplate. Also I would line up the paragon and epic bonuses with their counterparts. Padded progession would be +1/+2/+3 and Breastplate would be +6/+9/+12.

Full stats for padded would mean you get +1 AC at no appreciable cost (almost anyone would suck up a check penalty for an AC bonus), and every wizard would use it. As it is, it's useful for anyone with poor stats and no armor training... Granted, it's not a situation you expect PCs to be often be in often since out of only wizards with their high Int lack other armors. Future classes, perhaps a Wis/Cha based controller, might find it more useful though.

Besides, padded armor isn't exactly supposed to be uber, and it can present interesting trade-offs when found as loot.

Breastplate is much the same: how else could you create a lighter form of plate mail? Reduce the armor check and you basically end up with scale mail, negate the speed penalty and you go too far. Thematically, what I'm going for is a heavy, elite armor that gives some benefit to tough guys who also happen to be smart or fast.

Also I would line up the paragon and epic bonuses with their counterparts. Padded progession would be +1/+2/+3 and Breastplate would be +6/+9/+12.

The reason those progressions are what they are is that they take into account getting full stat bonus, or none. From the base AC, light armors are +1 paragon and +2 epic, and heavy armors are +3/+6. If you have an armor that gives 1/2 bonus, having the bonus right in between (+2/+4 from base AC) makes up for that nicely.
