Perhaps a rogue[warlock] with either of the shadow assassin or daggermaster paragon paths? There's no death attack, but death attacks are lame. Assassination is about arranging a situation where you can kill someone with a blade or poison or whatever, not about using some wonky unexplained "I kill you" technique.

Sorry, pet peeve on the death attack. :)

Take one rogue.

Take the feat "ritual casting".

Reflavour some of your exploits if you feel like it. If you're really worried, persuade the DM to relabel some of them spells (good candidates are the utility powers that let you hide in plain view and the like) - it doesn't really matter much though unless you're going to try cheesy stuff like putting rogue powers into wands.

Alternately pick up wizard multiclass.

Buy poison.

Et voila. You're a super sneaky and magically adept poison using rogue, which was all the assassin really ever was.

4e moves away from SAve or Die so I think the Shadow ASsassin Paragon Path with ritual casting and a warlock or wizard multiclass (and/or half-elf dilettante power) is as close as you are going to get.

Yeah I think the Shadow Assassin class is an Assassin class.

I know this, because Assassin is in the name.
