Warlock: Minions and Infernal Pact

Celtavian

Dragon Lord
Not sure if this has been asked. I searched and didn't find a thread covering it.

If a warlock curses a minion and then kills the minion himself or the minion is killed by another, does he get the temporary hit points for dropping it to 0 or below?

I was wondering if this combination works.

It doesn't matter who kills it, as long as it dies under your curse it gives you temporary hitpoints

Even 1 hit point minions eh? Nice way to keep the warlock with a cushion of termporary hit points against creatures with minions. I knew it wouldn't take me long to figure out how to maximize character builds.

So unless someone finds a contradictory rule, I shall ensure that I curse a minion for attack to keep my hit point cushion full up.

As temporary hitpoints don't stack but the highest number counts, there's not too many additional hitpoints a Warlock can get from this tactic.

Yep, it's a great tactic. But remember that temp hit points don't stack, despite some people out there twisting logic and reason in an attempt to make temp hp from the warlock pact stack.

And I figure the fact that you are getting "easy" temp hp from minions is balanced out by the fact that there are other minions hellbent on taken your real hit points away.

I'm aware temp hit points don't stack. But replenishment throughout a combat is good too. I found this fact out with the Paladin's Bolstering Strike. It was like having DR every round I hit. It should be close to the same in encounters where the warlock has a suitable number of minions to use as hit point fuel.

It may not seem like much at low level, but at high level the advantage of getting temp hit points off minions is going to be quite large. Much better than any other class receives. It will bolster the already very good hit points an Infernal Pact warlock starts off with. It will make them hard to kill.

It's a nice combo.

Use a Rod of Corruption, and instead of gaining temp hp that you can't use anyways, you instead curse all or a large portion of all the other critters. Saves you minor actions, trying to get your curse on the baddie in the back. :)

Deverash has the right idea.

Here's another fun one. If you're a Star Pact or Fey Pact warlock you can combine Rod of Reaving + Twofold Curse = Up to 6 minions killed every round, and easily a +2 to +4 to hit every single round in any battle that involves minions.

You CAN combine Rod of Corruption in your off-hand and Rod of Reaving in your mainhand to instantly trigger Rod of Corruption (but not a chain-reaction). However, this prevents you from using your Rod of Reaving as frequently because you cannot re-apply your curse.
