Yeah, buying random items just blows. I had enough of that in early magic days. No way am I buying random minis. Metal is the way to go.
You don't need metal to be non-random. Beyond the obvious secondary market for DDM, Reaper's Legendary Encounters line (plastic, pre-painted, non-random) is great, if limited in scope to date. Especially if you don't have the time or inclination to paint your own minis.

Hi guys, just needed to vent a bit before going out to get drunk with my gaming group.

I believe you have done this backwards as rants are always better after having gotten drunk.

Sorry about the odd luck on the minis draw.

Auggie rocks. That's where I get all of my stuff now. Who can beat 29 cents for some of the common figs?

Yup, that's where I always go. Mostly to get commons and uncommons. I've found I can usually get a good handful (20-30 mins) of commons/ uncommons for the same price as a booster or two. Sure...it means not getting rares, but I'll just snipe on ebay for the ones I want and get them for a fair price. Patience is the key... :)

I just checked Auggie's Games store, and they have 2 different kinds of D&D dragonborn, a "Defender" and a "Myrmidon," each of them for $4.99. His shipping charges are good, but it kind of depends on how much you buy. After spending a week or more researching web stores for singles, I've used him to buy all my minis that I need for specific games.

I'll third (or forth, or whatever) the mention of Auggies. I have over 7,000 D&D minis, and collected multiple complete sets of each release until the last set - and probably at least 2K of those came from Auggies. He's has been my go-to store since Giants of Legend (and man, thats been awhile now), and has consistently been one of the lowest priced, most reliable sellers out there.

Heck, I'd credit Andrew (Auggie) with being a huge factor in driving the secondary market price of minis down. He was the first seller I saw to consistently price his minis 25% below (often more) what others were charging, even as WotC raised the minis prices. He was the first seller I saw to offer flat shipping, too.

Most of the time when I buy a lot of random minis (star wars or Heroclix) and don't get what I want I go to Strike Zone. Sell them as many of the ones you don't want as you can and with the credit they give you (or you can get cash) buy more of waht you wanted. Unless your dead set on not buying them anymore, in that case nevermind.

For $550, you would have been MUCH better off just buying singles off Ebay sites or affiliates. You would have no doubles or triples of ones you don't want, and as many dragonborns as needed. And none of the lame models you don't want at all.

EditL Ayup, Auggies is the man.

I don't understand why you'd buy 550$ worth of boosters. Seriously. I only ever buy one case (to get me a decent bunch of all the commons and uncommons in the set), hope for good rare pulls, and then buy the rest of what I need on a case by case basis as singles.

I might buy 2 cases of ATG just because it's a Huge set, but still... Unless you're a reseller, why are you opening that many cases? It's about as cost effective as lottery tickets.

Reaper sells a great bronze half-dragon mini that's perfect for a dragonborn.

It's not a good angle of it, I think it looks much better at first hand.
