Soul Calibur IV is out today...

We PS3-playing people should play a few online matches.

I'm a bit busy at the moment (car shopping --my wife's car picked a fine time to die) and as I found out last night, my fightin' skills have atrophied mightily (I lost to the CPU?!... with Kilik?!), but by later next week I should be good to go!

re: arcade stick... bah, I'll just bend my fingers into an arthritic claw so I can cover all four button, like I did back with the Dreamcast controller.

Wow, I wondered what kind of game it takes to garner a myriad of responses in this forum. Wouldn't have guessed a fighting game would be it.

So, besides standard fighting game sparring elements--combos and juggles and other forms of fast-paced button-mashing--is there a story mode or some other feature that adds some depth and longevity?

There is a (short) story mode for each character that I messed around with yet, but if it's anything like it's predecessors, it adds absurdist comic relief, not depth.

On the other hand, there's a very robust character creator, where you can churn out Afro-sporting samurai and Excalibur-wielding ninja schoolgirls to your hearts content. And, without a doubt, doing just that makes my heart content.

Say, I was wondering about the secret apprentice's fighting style. Obviously, he uses the force like crazy, but is there anything special about his lightsaber style? His soon-to-be-deemed-iconic, reverse-gripped, blade-behind-the-back stance looks like he might be wielding a dual lightsaber, but only igniting one end at any given time.

No double blade...its just a reverse grip. His style in SCIV seems to be pretty accurate to what we've seen from Force Unleashed: fast, over-the-top, and flashy with that rather unique grip.
