My wife and I both liked it more than we expected. Nothing crazy, just a solid story and well developed characters and pleasant pacing. I also hope they make more movies. They have not given up on the remaining mysteries of the series, and in fact mention some of them, this just wasn't the movie to tackle them. It was more of a "remember how much you liked this show? Well, we've still got it, so please try and trust us again".

Not much sci fi (a little, I guess, though I would call it horror rather than sci fi). A dollop of occult/supernatural. No aliens. But a lot of questioning about "why we face the darkness" and whether the two of them can or should be a team again.

So, does this economy sized episode have much sci fi/creature or is it mostly a double helping of drama?
Without going too spoilerish, there is a heavy emphasis in the story on an alleged supernatural element (and all the pro and con arguments about the truth of the supernatural phenomenon).

It wasn't that bad, though felt that Scullly complained too much about being pulled back into investigating the paranormal.

It was ok. I had higher expectations though. Having seen it in the theater, I think I would have been better off waiting to watch it on DVD.

I'd actually be happy if they made more movies, and they were direct to DVD. Maybe that was the point of this movie, to re-establish the franchise so people will buy future DVD movies? Who knows.

My understanding is that Stargate SG-1 is doing pretty well with direct to DVD movies, and this is vaguely in that same genre, so maybe that is a telling factor.
