4E is unacceptable

So, 4e is unacceptable because
a) There´s less in the books than in 3e.
b) The art
c) Wotc tries to tell people about the RPGA
c) There are too many errata.

I hope, the OP doesn´t take this personal, but it´s easy to disappoint you.

First off, you're entitled to your own opinion. Some games work for some people, others don't. Having said that, I want some things clarified.

RPGA - I don't see how the present RPGA is any different from the RPGA of the past few years.

Incompleteness of the Books - There's another thread on the matter but as far as I'm concerned, it's complete. It doesn't have all the options 3.5 has, or even AD&D, but it's certainly more content compared to when the original D&D got released.

Art - For me, this will always be relative. Like I didn't like the original Dragonlance novels art but that's just me. You won't please everyone.

Weapons - This is a throwback to 3.0 weapon size rules. Don't like it either but people were complaining when they changed weapon size rules in 3.5...

Rules - No better than 3.0 (or some other RPGs from other game companies) but honestly, even if I didn't incorporate most of the errata, the game will still work most of the time.

OP,

Keeping things positive -

Art - I actually like the 4E core book art better than most of the 3E art.
Mechanics - 4E does make it very easy on the DM. NPCs and monsters scale up and down very easily. I like that about it.
Character mechanics - the 1/2 level + ability modifier core mechanic does make things more scalable, though I suspect that the math might break down between levels 25 and 30 like 3E does at high levels. Not sure though.
RPGA - Same as it's always been. Since this is one of the best methods of recruiting new players, I have no problem with it.

All that said, I don't like it better than 3E.

3E needs some work, which is what Pathfinder is all about. If you're going with Pathfinder, come to the Paizo boards. There's always room for more over there.

"I, a complete stranger to probably everyone here, hate the things you enjoy. Harrumph. Bye!"

Forgive me here, but I'm not really seeing the point to this topic. Dramatic goodbyes are kind of goofy even when they're being made by people with hundreds or thousands... But 7? An inflammatory hello and goodbye in one fell swoop is about as pointless as threads get.

Isn't that what is usually referred to as flaming in?

It's much like saying The Dark Knight was unacceptable because:
a) It was too long
b) You had to see it in IMAX to get the actual film
c) There was too much hype
d) The actor that stole the show is now dead

One can make extremely weak arguments for anything. :p

I just dont' like that 4e plays slower than 3e. Combats simply take longer and the fact that I get "less playing done" is what bugs me the most. I think to bump up damage or lower hit points would really have been more desirable for me.

Not to side track a "pail and shovel" post but I keep seeing a few people say this about combat but it has been the farthest thing from my own 4e experience so I just wonder if it is a certain module or a certain party mix or something else?

Why does everyone feel the need to do these public exit things that they don't really mean?

I made a "how D&D 4e failed me" post a while ago. Mostly it's just a matter of venting, partly looking for reassurance or fixes (both of which come up lacking, people just say "you're wrong" and move on a lot of times). Part of it also the hope that if there's enough expression of the sentiment that perhaps they'll recognize why some things are lagging in sales. (I don't know that they will, as I originally said, I was a big purchaser of D&D stuff, and now I'm at best Casual. I have no plans to pick up anything in the lineup other than the PHB I already have.)

Anyway, it's a message board, if folks didn't come to vent, the board would grow empty. :)
