I can't answer it. There are things I like, and things I dislike, about all editions. I'm trying 4E at present, and missing some things I liked about 3.5 while appreciating some other things which I prefer to 3.5. I loved the atmosphere of 1E. Of all of 'em, I think the most certian I can be is that I think 2E was the weakest variation.

All of the above?

Right now, it's 3.5E, because that's what my group's campaign is. We want to play some 4E, but haven't gotten to anythign more than a playtest, yet. And I wouldn't mind getting back to some 1E or BECMI fun.

Best thing in my mind about each edition:

ODD: It started!
BECMI: Simple flexibility
1E: Great adventures
2E: Campaign settings & detailed flavor
3E/3.5E: Massive flexibility & customization
4E: Team tactics and always a viable option

And Africans. Or at least one African, since I'm not sure that I've ever seen anyone else on ENWorld from my part of the world :erm:

(And, I'm sure, Australasians.)

And then there were 2 ;)

I voted 4e as it suits my dming style more than previous editions. That said, I'll gladly play any previous edition and would dm some (bemci, Iron Heroes).

There is no "one true system" for me as each has its own strengths and weaknesses and I will gladly play in most systems settings that someone brings to the table.

While I am really enjoying 4E I most fondly look back at the BECMI rules. I pulled out my Basic Set Player's Guide last night and flipped through it. I really miss the simplicity and free form nature of the game. I have no illusions about finding a group willing to play it but I am hanging onto it as a way to introduce my son to the hobby when he gets old enough. :)

I love, love, love the memories I have of D&D BECMI. It was a powerful new take on depth, detail and imagination in a roleplaying game for me, and the covers by Elmore are oh so sweet!

So for me I prefer D&D BECMI. In theory, that is, in my perfect dream world where I remember only those things that made sense for me, and glossed over other things.

For playing D&D, give me D&D 3.5, or D&D4. :D

For roleplaying ... next up is Dark Heresy.

Forked from here Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo, commenting about ENWorld

So in wake of the previous thread I am genuinely curious to know Where EnWorld stands edition wise. Please no edition wars or snark.

Which of all the editions do you prefer over all the others? Or do you prefer a D20 Variant over DnD?
If I'd say that I'd wish this was a public poll, does that me a control freak / creepy, or just a little to curious? ;)
