*headscratch* While it claims to be a FR article, it mentions Arkosia and Bael Turath in the article. Granted I don't own the FRCG but I thought those were restricted to the POL setting.
Or is every WotC campaign setting going to have a Bael Turath etc? I hope not.

I answer with another quote! :)

The genasi have a long history in D&D, but now, in the new Forgotten Realms Player’s Guide, they’re a prime choice as a PC race. If you’re at all curious about this new 4th Edition race, jump into the "Ecology of the Genasi." This setting-neutral article will provide you with all sorts of information covering how to incorporate the genasi into any D&D game.

Did anyone else notice the shai'r class was mentioned in this article? Does that mean we'll see this as a real class, possibly as the Elemental controller? Hmm.

Possibly, but I doubt we'll see the supreme flexibility Al-Qadim sha'irs had, with the ability to cast almost any spell but with a delay based on spell level and type.

Though come to think of it, the article says "human wizards known as sha'ir", which doesn't make it sound like a separate class.

As someone not conversant with the minutae of TSR-era worlds, I have to ask: what's a sha'ir? I thought it was some bizarre X-Men reference.

I liked the article, I hadn't heard a lot about Genasi prior to this article, and found it interesting. I'd like to play a Genasi now, not just for mechanical reasons, but for roleplay ones too.

It was an Al Qadim spellcaster (Al Qadim was a Campaign setting based on 1001 Nights but placed to the south of Faerun in Forgotten Realms).
