I'm all for not taking things too seriously, but I still have limits, and that just wasn't funny. And this is all proving rather difficult to articulate over text.
People have different tastes in humour? You don't say. I think it was funny. My post therefore cancels yours out.

EDIT: Part of my issue may be that I'm assuming this ad is aimed at younger audiences, cause I really hope no adult saw the poop drop and thought, "Wow, it's poo! Frickin' awesome!"
So there are some things older people should not find funny? I guess we need a new term: BadWrongFunny. I found it mildly amusing, myself.

Seen this and the gnome/tiefling one now, and neither made me laugh once. There was a little "ho-hum" internal humor with me on this one, like when the dragon was flaming the orphanage. Kind of like classic Black Mage. That's probably why i found it funny, thinking of 8-bit.

What happened to the reporter not only wasn't humorous, it's alsopretty disturbing tat some people did fing it funny. Reporter holds a stick as asked, gets fried, then eaten. There is nothing of humor inherently in that sequence of events. The only thing I can see possibly being a subject for laughter from that is just the fact of the reporter dying (gruesomely). Which really shouldn't be something to laugh at. "Oh, look! The dragon charred the flesh right off his bones! Tee hee!!" Would you laugh if the reporter was slowly burning to death, as an act of torture, too?

Do you not play a game where you break into peoples houses, kill them and take their stuff?

Jebus you need to lighten up.

A lot.

Oh lord, I hope there are invisible sarcasm tags around this post!

No, I just think it is sad that they would stoop to that for any reason. If the intent is for getting people to act more mature about 4th, then this was not a very mature way to do it.

Wasn't the very first video about 4th edition also one that made fun of gamers?

That one has some french type guy in it if I recall right.

I mean it is sad that the makers of D&D act in this childish manner. Worse that HASBRO or ESRB allows it.

I mean in the interest of building the gamer community it is not something that should be done to stoop to the lowest common denominator with "poop jokes", and in doing so in the perceived context of the video fracture the community more.

It's a flash cartoon. You're thinking too far into it if you believe they had any goals other than "let's make something entertaining for our fans that pokes gentle fun at ourselves and others."

If you're taking D&D and flash cartoons this seriously, we are not going to find any common ground to discuss this further.

I think that depends on what you think, "act mature" means.

Last time I checked, a sense of humor was required for maturity, and the ability to self-critique - and sometimes those things go together. Mature people keep a sense of perspective and proportion most of the time.

It was hard to tell people have different tastes. Until my post, almost every single post that wasn't talking about the troll/kobold duality was calling the cartoon funny. So i stated it wasn't particularly funny to me and I tried to explain why. But I'm only allowed to have a different taste in humor so long as it doesn't conflict with yours. I understand now. Also, my post counters and dispels your post.

I do, but the act in and of itself isn't a source of humor, generally. If the rogue struggles picking the lock only to have the barbarian notice an open window, that's funny. If the barbarian grapples one of the NPCs and his kid tries to shoot the barbarian in retaliation only to accidentally kill the parent, that's generally funny. Haven't heard many people try to argue that murder and larceny are inherently funny on their own merits before now, though.

Jebus you need to lighten up.

And you need to stop telling people what they need to do, thanks.

Thank you, Umbran. I can't agree more.

Some people think it's immature to have fun playing games you enjoy. I've lost a few players who buckled under a spouse's pressure to stop playing "silly kid games" like D&D. I recently had a co-worker walk by while I was surfing and saw the D&D logo here on ENWorld. She commented, "How old are you?"

Maturity is more than acting like "proper adults." Its realizing that even though you have responsibilities in life you can also enjoy yourself in any way that interests you. If that means you like to laugh at poop jokes, no one has the right to look down their noses at you telling you to grow up.
