I'd call Mind's Eye Theater a more serious game than D&D any day, and at it's heart that's just an elaborate version of Dress Up.

But hey, if pretending to be a pretty elven princess is serious business to you, carry on.

I've tried dressing up as a pretty elven princess for my D&D game but no-one seemed to take me seriously.

This thread is starting to get fairly hostile, and some part of me finds this hilarious when it's coming in the form of people being dead serious about telling others not to be serious.
So you're telling people not to be so serious about others being serious.

But isn't that what you're doing?

Damn, I just got the news. Apparently he died in 1921. Oh the humanity!;)

No, I think you are thinking of Zingelbert Bembledack! Or maybe Yingybert Dambleban? Zangelbert Bingledack? Wingelbert Humptyback? Slut Bunwalla? Kringelbert Fishtybuns? Steviebuns Bottrittrundle? Tringelbert Wangledack? Klingybun Fistelvase? Dindlebert Zindledack? Gerry Dorsey? Engelbert Humptyback? Zengelbert Bingledack? Vingelbert Wingledanck?

But definately not Engelbert Humperdinck!

All I am saying, is that I wouldn't tell poop jokes around my grandmother, or some random stranger who walked up to where I worked and asked about what I was trying to sell them.

Would you try to sell your grandmother D&D stuff?

I doubt your grandmother (or anyone truly offended by a poop joke for that matter) is really WoTC's target audience.

Cartoon <> Game*
That is not readily apparent to people with little prior information.

These aren't made to sell anything. They're made to entertain.
That is debatable, but it is not necessarily a relevant argument when said cartoon is hosted on the official game website, which was created to help sell the game.

Personally, in reality, I find D&D closer in tone to SLAYERS than say RECORD OF LODOSS WARS.

Sure, we all want to play an epic serious campaign like RoLW, but usually, the campaign's tone is closer to Slayers (lots of laughs with small scenes of grim which quickly get made fun of)

That is not readily apparent to people with little prior information.
So let me see if I understand. You're positing a situation where someone who doesn't know a thing about D&D happens to go to the horribly-designed D&D website, picks the cartoon link at random, sees a flash cartoon which is clearly for entertainment value, and mistakes the cartoon for the actual game of Dungeons & Dragons?

That is debatable, but it is not necessarily a relevant argument when said cartoon is hosted on the official game website, which was created to help sell the game.
