Someone says "I'm quitting version 'x' of D&D" you react by:

"Man the battlements! Prepare to defend the Holy!"

(Or: Deal with their comments by pointing out that what they call weaknesses, your group calls fun, so nyah!)

"Form a wedge! Forward, in to the heretics and turn them back to the path of righteousness!"

(Or: Take their grievances apart line-item and show them that HA! HA! YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG. and convince them to try again.)

"Ignore them, brothers! Heed not the apostates!"

(Or: Man, whatever, it's all D&D. You didn't enjoy it, go play what makes you happy.)

Well?

I roll my eyes and worry that I once again get sucked into it and the resulting edition wars and that I will be one of the five posters still bothering to post on the thread on page 19. :heh: :-S

unless i personally know the person i don't really care. Play and quit whatever you want, it doesn't really matter to me as long as your having fun.

If i do know the person i'll try to understand their reasons and then argue with them. It's fun to argue with friends about gaming. :d

qtf ;)

Looking at them funny. "You're really never going to play 4e again? Even if someone runs an awesome-sounding game of it? ... 'kay." Then if they respond in the affirmative, continuing to look at them funny.

I've almost never quit a game system. I've quit games, and for a while I quit roleplaying altogether, but I've found that if I ever liked the system enough to play in it, I'd still be cool with it if someone I knew was offering to run a game in it that sounded good.

The closest it's come for me are Exalted 2e (which I still play, but it's had its system get steadily worse with every book they publish because it seems like the authors don't give a hoot about playability any more, much less fun) and Big Eyes, Small Mouth, which I always felt about the way a lot of people felt about D&D in the 90s - "Man, I hate this, but it's the only game in town...".

(I also wouldn't play Vampire any more, but that's not a system issue and never was.)

I shrug, and wonder why they feel the need to announce it.

Regardless of what edition they play, they'll have an awesome! time, so it hardly matters what edition they play.

Very much quoted for truth. I puzzle over why people feel the need to announce their gaming comings and goings on a forum (except for recruitment/socialising sections).

These.

I mean, I get that if you play an online game, you tell your guild on your private board. But total strangers on a messageboard where you will probably still hang out, since it caters to all editions?

Just plain weird.

"I really enjoy gaming with you, but I'm not ready to go back to running 3.5 yet. This campaign should end in about 6 months. Why don't we check in with you then and see if we can't agree on which game to play next? BTW Chris is holding a thanksgiving dinner, can you come? "

if online?
