One slap you got big chunks for stews, two slaps home fries in a second. And now look at this when you add a mushroom you more you do it the finer it gets you don’t have to switch any blades. Now, you love salad, you hate making it. You know you hate making salads that’s why you don’t have any salad in your diet. Now watch this one slap, salad! Now I love Pizza to but once in a while get the veggies in, at least throw it on top of the pizza. You’re gonna change your eating habits. The onions with the skin, alright this is making you cry making me cry. Alright life’s hard enough as it is. You don’t wanna cry anymore. Put the Slap Chop right there, the skins at the bottom. And look at this you want a little bit of onions, you don’t wanna drag out the food processor. The skin, comes right off! You see that? Alright now you put a tomato in there. Add your cilantro, your hot peppers right there. You hit it like this. Guys we’re gonna make America skinny again. One slap at a time!

That's a very long post just to be snarky... and I didn't see anything like that in the thread above. There is zero mention of slap chops until you said it.

I was against the DDI subscription at first, then someone told me that they include ALL creatures with statblocks from all WoTC and LFR adventures as well as the books. That was a big selling point for me.

I agree about the timeout value being a bit absurdly short.

For those concerned about the price, why not go in with a friend and cut the price in half? If you buy coffee every day, just omit that from your life and you will have paid for it.

ps: If you act now I hear they will be throwing in a set of Ginzu steak knives.

I will say that because of my DDI subscription, I don't feel the need to buy any book which contains only lists of powers, items, races, monsters, classes, etc. So I won't be buying AV2, Arcane Power, Divine Power, Monster Manual 2, PHB2, etc, because the DDI compendium is as good a way, if not better, to reference that material. My 60 a year gets me ~100 bucks worth of material, before any of the extra stuff. DDI is one of the best values out there, at least for a DM.

I'm a little confused by this sentiment... do you plan on playing 4e beyond WotC supporting it? I mean I'm not buying into 4e, but if I was I would still rather have books I own and that can't be taken away when 5e hits... than digital info that will vanish once it is no longer feasible for WotC to support it... especially since WotC will destroy the surplus stock of books, like they did with 3e/3.5... or am I thinking to far ahead?

In my opinion, DDI is not only worth it, but it is incredibly cheap right now for what you get. I think some folks are really going to regret waiting on a yearly subscription, since I suspect a price increase is not far off.

Well, I'm a sucker for shine-y, so once 5e comes out, that's probably what I'll play. But as to keep the books themselves around, I'm still interested in fluff books. The info in the crunch heavy books though will be really really stale at the end of 4e though.

Btw, did WotC destroy the 3e books, or just selling them to the surplus book market? The latter sounds a lot more plausible.

Yeup. My bet is that once they've ironed out some of the bugs in the next month's update and have released the PHBII, that the price will go up to about $10 a month or $80 per year.

Will still be awesome value at that price though. Even with the bugs, I love the character builder. Best $8 I've spent in a long time. Which reminds me, I have to put aside another $8 in my bank account to make sure next month is covered :D

I mean, really, people, just how freakin' cheap are you?

WotC can't provide this stuff for free and ongoing development and improvement cost money. They have to recoup that somewhere and my bet is that they're losing money big time on DDI so far. Ante up if you want to see this project have a future.

And as far as the character builder being a beta goes, I'd agree that there are bugs in it and they're annoying as Hell, but at the same time, 99% of the program is spiffy as and deserves a little praise.

I think anything beyond $8 would be robbery. Most services out there that are not online games cost around $8 a month, just look at XBOX live. It is not a direct comparison, but XBOX live is at least as useful as DDI. I think with the competition for net money DDI needs to stay about $8.

In no way would I encourage people to pay more.

The best comparison is other niche online magazine and data content. A few examples:
  • Consumer Reports online access is 26 a year, a bit cheaper than DDI, but also doesn't provide quite as much.
  • Better Investing magazine plus online data access is 80 a year. This is a bit more equivalent as its a magazine, data access, etc.
  • WoW is 13 a month. Again, this is closer to what DDI in both price and what it provides.

But the point is that xBox Live isn't a content production system, its a content delivery system. Not that I want to pay more, as 5 a month is pretty reasonable to me, but I could see the justification if the price went up.

I don't think that WOW is comparable to DDI. It is late and I am not sure how to articulate this just now, but I think WOW offers more by virtue of it being the game, and environment for players to play within. IN general I think players of WOW will spend more hours on WOW, than D&D players will spend on DDI.

Agreed. That said, its also significantly more expensive. So DDI is offers less, but is also around half to a third as pricey. And certainly its as least as fair as the xbox live comparison.
