Worldwide Dungeons & Dragons Game Day
Player’s Handbook 2: 21 March 2009

In 2009, Worldwide D&D Game Day is set to expand yet again: This time into three separate events! That’s right, this year WWDDGD will be celebrated on three dates, corresponding to the release of the three “2s”—Player’s Handbook 2; Monster Manual 2; and Dungeon Master’s Guide 2.

As with past WWDDGDs, each date will be a celebration of the world's most popular RPG, complete with great activities and free stuff.

The March event celebrates the release of the Player’s Handbook 2, packed with new options for the Dungeons & Dragons game.

The event previews new races (such as the gnome) and new classes (like the invoker and barbarian) while pitting players against wicked fiends and dark plots. For players new to the game as well as 4th Edition veterans, this event has everything needed to embark on an all-new adventure:

One Dark Night in Weeping Briar – A stormy night, an empty town, and a small girl who holds the key to the strange disappearances. An adventure for 5 pregenerated 11th-level characters.

In related news: With three WWDDGD events this year, instead of holding a headquarters event at the London Dungeon like we did the past few years, we're going to partner each date with a different retailer around the UK.

For the Player's Handbook 2 event on 21 March, we're working with Patriot Games in Sheffield as the UK headquarters site. Watch this space for information concerning special activities at Patriot.

Excellent. Any fellow ENworlders going to be at Inner Sanctum in Cambridge?
I'd start calling dibs on characters, but they all look like fun.

Please note the list as originally posted had Kingdom of Adventure in the wrong town. Its event will be in Kirkcaldy, and the list has now been fixed.

Unfortunately, there just aren't any shops in London with play space.

If you're willing to get out of the city, there are plenty of options. Reading is just 26 minutes from Paddington, and Eclectic Games is literally across the street from the Reading station. The Games Shop in Aldershot's only about 40 minutes from Waterloo. I'm sure there are a number of other options like that.

I've updated the list (for what should be the final time) to include Sceaptune Games (Andover/Salisbury area) and World of Fantasy (Yeovil). I've also removed Weird and Wonderful, which had slipped onto the list in error.

Could not one of the several rpg clubs in london host an event ?

To run a "full-fledged" event, if you will, a site must be a retail shop. That's how they get a physical kit that has components such as the miniatures.

However, anyone can run a WWDDGD event without a physical kit--you can download the adventure and PDFs of the other materials from WotC for free.

That said, if a club wanted to partner with a retailer (and thus get a physical kit), that's just fine--in fact, that's a great way for a retailer that doesn't have play space in the shop to run an event. The only caveat is that the shop must actually promote the event, and it would have to be open to the public, not just club members.

This event came together with unfortunately short notice. There are two additional events this year (May and September), so if any clubs in the London area want to work with one of the London retailers, hopefully there's more time to make that happen for the future dates.

Hope that helps!
