[sblock=time? what's that?]I just haven't had time recently to go digging through magic item lists for Quagmire, so you'll have to surprise me if I don't get around to it before we find some loot. The one thing I did have my eye on was a vanguard rapier, FWIW. [/sblock]

OOC: No problem, Covaithe. I had stuff picked out already but was willing to take wishlists into account as possibilities.

The Captain directs the sailors and the ship makes good time to the island. After sighting the large isle of Kythira, the Captain takes some measurements and turns to run parallel to the coast. "We're not headed to the big Isle itself, ya see." he whispers conspiratorially. "There's another smaller island just up the coast a ways. That's where the meet is gonna be and delivery was scheduled for."

He eventually finds the place he's looking for, and you see a dock jutting out into the sea from the low island that appears off the coast. The vegetation is thick around the beach and you cannot see inland very far, but the silence is heavy with dread. Azrael commands the crew to tie off the ship and lower the gangplank to the dock. Striding off the ship, the Captain leads the group down the dock to the beach. Out of the jungle strides a large and powerful dragonborn male. He wears scale armor and carries a light shield on one arm and a longsword on his hip. Another identical dragonborn strides out of the jungle 20 feet or so down from the first. The first one stops walking about 20 feet from Azrael and puts its hands on its hips. "You are extremely late. The mistress is displeased with this delay and the apparent mishandling of her cargo. It seems that it has been lost and found and changed hands once again. This does not instill confidence in her for the possible state of her new belongings. You will unload all of the cargo and bring it onto the beach here for inspection before your payment is delivered."

Azrael scowls, but nods. With a wave of his hand back at the ship, he instructs the crew to start unloading the cargo onto the dock and then moving it forward to the beach. The two dragonborn stand like statues, observing the unloading with cold eyes. As the last crates are set down, the crew wipes the sweat out of their eyes as the sun burns down on the hot sand. The waves lap at the shore and the two dragonborn nod to each other. "Payment time then..." From the jungle, a sound emerges that sounds like Brudd when he was hacking up a lung-full of snot to spit out into the ocean earlier in the voyage. The spitting sound is quickly followed by another and suddenly two of the tired crew members are screaming bloody murder as they fall to the sand writhing in agony and trying to claw the sticky globs of acid away from their faces as it smokes and eats away their flesh. Out of the jungle stride a pair of orange reptilian creatures the size of a man crawling on all fours. The membranes on the side of their heads quiver as they shriek a disturbing cry into the still air. The Dragonborn draw their swords and move to attack as well, unleashing a roar and a spray of acid at those in front of them before slicing with their swords at whoever is left standing...

-Spitting Drakes take down 2 regular crew members. (Surprise round)

-The first Dragonborn soldier (DS1) draws its sword and moves forward to unleash its acidic breath weapon at Alex, Azrael, and another crew member. The crewman drops dead and Azrael is burned badly. He stumbles away from the dragonborn, but the monster slices at him with its sword as the Captain moves away. He falls bloody to the sand and crawls away. Alex manages to dodge the acid spray unlike the Captain. Dragon Breath attacks vs. Reflex (1d20+6=7, 1d6+2=4, 1d20+6=15, 1d6+2=4)

-The second Dragonborn uses the same tactics. Dragon breath at Quag and Hrav vs. Reflex (1d20+6=16, 1d6+2=8, 1d20+6=16, 1d6+2=3) Quagmire is hit for 8 damage, but Hrav just manages to dodge the breath weapon.

---End of Surprise Round---

-Quagmire, Hrav, Girth, and Alex can go...

Alexander peeks at the dragonborn in fron of him from behind his shield, takes a look at the acid on its surface, and grins at the armored thug: Ya kidding, yeah? Four of you and four of us? I'll make a new travel bag with your scales! Capt'n, fall back! he says confidently, turning at Azrael. Then he unsheates his sword in a flash and roars: Girth, Quag, Hrav! Let's teach them how we fight!!

Quagmire grins a toothy grin that's really not very friendly. "Right. Hrav, let's put this one down quick so we can deal with those spitters. Girth, back us up if this one lives that long." He steps to the side, distracting it while Hrav slips behind, and stabbing.

[sblock=tactics]Hmm, these guys are tough; I think concentrating fire will be our friend. I wish we could easily go after the spitters quickly, but I think we're gonna be stuck in melee with these guys for a bit. Unless we bring one down quickly, or incapacitate them somehow, this could be unpleasant.[/sblock]

[sblock=actions]Move: shift to S10. Standard: wolf pack tactics, allowing Hrav to shift before the attack. Assuming he shifts to flank, the attack is (inc. CA and sneak attack) hits AC 25 for 18 damage.

If these guys do what I think they're gonna do, I'm likely to need my minor action for an inspiring word, though I'll wait till the above is resolved before deciding, if that's okay.[/sblock]

edit: post 666, oh yeah.

Taking advantage of Quag's distraction, Hrav slips behind the dragonborn, takes a moment to find the most vulnerable spot, then rams his rapier in that exact spot, up to the hilt.

"Bah, these guys don't look so tough!" he laughs.

"Aye my friend, with you I am."

Girth spun on one heel, capering with arms outstretched as he cursed the nearest dragonborn with the malice of his Lady.

He giggled as Quag and Hrav slammed their weapons into the creatures scales. He screeched with laughter as the dragonborn's blood sprayed onto the sand. And then he was ready.

Dark tendrils of light shot from his fingers and writhed across the intervening space. They smoothly jinked around his friends, almost caressing them as they passed. And then they surged through the dragonborn's scales and into his very being.

[sblock=Attack]Warlock's Curse followed by Vampiric Embrace. VE: 19 vs Will; damage 9 + 6 from Curse = 15 necrotic damage. Girth gains 5 temp HP. Roll Lookup [/sblock]

Leave this one to me! Go after the lizards! shouts Alexander as his sword strikes the Dragonborn's shield. Though the attack doesn't reach the warrior, the strenght of the blow is enough to drive all his attention on Alex.

[sblock=tactics]Guys, I think D2 is either dead or very close. Concentrate on the drakes and I'll stall D1. I know it's tougher than Alexander but I think I can handle it while you finish the others. If things go bad I'll use Boundless endurance. Let the tank be hit while you slaughter the others  [/sblock]

-Quagmire and Hrav shift into position on opposite sides of the dragonborn. As they move though, the dragonborn slashes at Quagmire with its sword and hits the bugbear before their stabbing weapons pierce deep into its body. Each of them sees the tip of the other ones weapon emerge ON THEIR SIDE! The dragonborn staggers under these blows as its blood gushes out onto the sand. (Quagmire hit for 8 damage. Quagmire is bloodied unless he used his minor action to do an inspiring word on himself.)

-Girth works his dark magicks and the tendrils latch onto the weakened soldier and suck the remaining life out of him. The dragonborn drops to the earth unmoving while the rush of its life energizes Girth.

-Alex swings at the dragonborn in front of him, but can't pierce its defenses. It is focusing its attention on him though.

-The spitting drakes focus on Hrav and each sends a glob of acidic spittle his way. The bugbear can't dodge both of them and in hesitating for a split second trying to decide, he gets hit solidly by both acidic globs. With a splat the spit splashes against him and starts burning away his hair, his skin, and the muscle beneath. Hrav is sorely wounded and bleeding badly.

-The dragonborn in front of Alex swings at him, but the human blocks the heavy blow. Neither seems able to pierce the defenses of the other so far.

-Mounstrous Crew's turns...
