D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Ok, the WoW analogy was invalid, apologies.

Still, I think my point is valid. I think the PHB 1 should be updated, alone as it stands, such that it's the best PHB1 it can be.

I point to the 3.5 overhaul of "polymorph" as an example of Wizard's history of retroactively fixing things.

(Also yes keterys, twin strike needs to be fixed. the ranger player in my campaign is pure techno with twin strike)

.....which was an absolute disaster. NOT the way I want them to do things in 4.xe.

Errata should be minor. Errata should be free. Errata should not be a huge patch stuffed into a book you have to buy. :hmm:

Sorry, not that familiar with 3.5 (jumped on the bandwagon shortly before 4.0, too short to really get immersed).

What was the polymorph disaster?

I mostly used it as past precedent that Wizards have gone back and changed things.

One of the things we were told upon 4ed launch was "more regular erratta", yet some blinding issues haven't been errata'd, just simply ignored.

  • Sure Strike
  • Careful Attack
  • Wizard's At Wills
  • Veteran's Armor

Wait a moment, I'm confused. What's so horribly broken about Veteran's Armor? You spend an action point, and it grants you a +1 to everything until the end of your next turn. Sure, it's good, but how many action points are you blowing through each encounter?

Sure Strike and Careful Attack do not break the game. They are a suboptimal choice at low level.

Veteran’s Armor was much better than anything else it’s level and probably should not have made it into the book. I knew it was to good when the main power gamer in my group put it on his wish list… it was updated soon after, why is this still an issue with people?

Wizard’s at wills… they have been working well in my game… are they to good? Or suboptimal? They are not all ‘controllery’ as they probably should have been… but they are not throwing the balance off in any of my groups…

This got removed from Veteran'r Armor. The rest of the Armor is unchanged.
Power (Daily): Free Action. Spend an action point. You do
not gain the normal extra action. Instead, you regain the
use of one expended daily power.

Veteran's Armor was unbalanced with the power. Remove the power and it's on par with most of the level 2s... but certainly not all that amazing. But, it's level 2. Eh. As far as I can tell, it was a good, albeit unpopular, errata.

- suboptimal is still something that needs to be fixed

- I see the point about VA

- I think the Wiz's At Wills need to not be suboptimal, especially as the principal controller in the first book
