DDI Survey Results posted

I'm surprized that the virtual table ranked lower (in percentage) than some other features. I do want a virtual table sooner rather than later, but I'd also like to see the other popular features as well.

In the meantime, I'll just keep using Maptool.

It could be that respondents have got the message that this application seems to be too hard for WotC (though not for half a dozen others) and is delaying and distorting the spec for other developments that they might actually be able to deliver. So it's not so much that customers don't want this application, as that they see it as fruitless and harmful to keep asking Wizards to do it.

I am a little surprised that the Game Table is so low, too, since it seemed the "Killer App" of DDI. But after having played with GameTable - a pretty simple product, I am not sure I really need something more "advanced", at least I don't think I need it more than tools. The Character Visualizer is a shiny thing, but its actual practical uses are very limited if you don't need the GameTable for your usual play.

Campaign & Adventure Management is definitely something I am interested in, though the topic is very... broad and ill-defined, so I am not sure what to expect, but eager to find out what they will offer. (And since I am already a subscriber...)

A Monster Builder would be very useful, too, especially if it can create these neat stat blocks, as would an Encounter Builder that can print out a two-sheet encounter setup like in the published adventures.

I'm also surprised at the low rating of the VTT.

I thought it was interesting however that someone pointed out that if designed with the VTT in mind, the other applications seem like necessary building blocks before being able to get it up and running.

I can see how some suscribers won't like the idea of the subscription going up when the VTT arrives. Keeping this in mind WotC would be wise to offer differnet types of subscriptions to cater to different peoples needs, desires and economic capabilities.
So if someone wants a cheap subscription they would just have access to the magazines and the character builder, for example. And those of us interested in the VTT, should also have the option of subscribing to it without access to the magazines and character builders. Those that want the whole shabang, pay the price for the whole shabang.

It doesn't seem like such flexibility would be technically difficult to achieve.

Anyway, time will tell.

I've seen this "nerd rage" term appear with increasing frequency in these forums. I'm tempted to report such posts, but maybe I'm just out-of-touch with the terminology. Somebody feel free to enlightne me: how is this term not inherently inflammatory and disrespectful when the person using it knows perfectly well that some of the folks reading the post are likely to be among those the term is being applied to?

Let me just say that I'm a nerd. And sometimes I rage.

Not true. I actually understand his point.
What?

I wasn't being flippant. He really should report it if he feels its an insult.

If you want to know about posts I've reported, conversations I've had with moderators, why I don't think reporting it will help, or why I described myself as a narcissist with ADD, go ahead message me or email me. cadfan17@yahoo.com If you use email make sure to identify your screen name so I know who I'm talking to.

No, thanks. I think I'll just change the post.

I didn't think you were being flippant. Just that I got the clue by four square in the intellect.

For what is worth (not much I realize) I also despise the term "nerd rage". If it's not downright inflammatory its certainly extremely condescending... it ought to be abolished, IMO.

.

One conclusion that I think that one can draw from the survey results is that
the vast majority of respondants are DMs and not players.

It doesn't overwhelmingly surprise me that DMs want other things more
than the VTT.

I think it's a wonderful term that should be used more often and in more circumstances.
