OotS #650 is up!

Maybe V can kill Xykon. I am not so sure about her killing the monster in the dark though. Also her soul buddies are essentially possessing her right? There should be some way to dispel or exorcise them. Or even anchor them. BoV had some interesting spells of that kind (Impotent possessor or something?)

No, they are just watching, commenting and lending their power. V is in full controll and completely responsible for what she does, including the vile things.

Well I meant mechanically. Possession does not only mean control, they are allies and enforced to stay that way because of a magical contract. They are ethereal creatures attached to V and the one that managed to get unattached could be channeled by or possess someone judging by Nero's comments.

Also on the comment that Xykon's high level slots are Meteor Swarm, Soul Bind and Energy Drain. His high level slots are 2xEpic. We know he can cast Cloister, maybe he has something else up his sleeve.

V is stupid insofar as he doesn't recognize the dramatic conventions that control his world and which indicate that Xykon won't die just yet...

...but if it were the real world, a bold "attack now that you have the highest level of power you'll ever attain" would have indeed been the wisest possible move. As he said, every minute passing he's indebting himself even more to demons who'll be using his power for evil. Better do as much good as possible in that time.

Depends. Slinging around a lot of power without a plan doesn't always work. It's why Xykon needs Redcloak to achieve his ultimate aims. Redcloak is a planner. And it's why V will fail to kill Xykon in any permanent way.

Unless we rule out meta-game considerations, such as Xykon being the primary villain (or at least one of the main villains) and so on, V should be able to kill Xykon. After all, with the soul-splice, V is vastly more powerful than Xykon.

Of course, unless V also destroys Xykon's phylactery, he will just grow a new body in due course...

Xykon will not fight alone.

I think that people are underestimating exactly how powerful Xykon actually is.

I am convinced that V will show up bring the pain for 1 or two strips, and then Xykon will surprise V and inflict some very serious harm, possibly with Red Cloak doing something to the bound souls via Rebuke. V may then pull off a bit of an upset.

Then the Monster in the Darkness will show up and basically embarass V, and we will still not know what that thing is.

END COMMUNICATION

A prediction...

V's confrontation with Xykon (along with Roy's resurrection and everything else happening in the meantime) will take slightly less than 16 strips. The outcome of that confrontation will culminate in strip #666, wherein V's relinquishes Ultimate Power -- either willingly or by dying -- and the IFCC's begins to collect its debt.

I don't know... V killed the Dragon without breaking a sweat, right? S/he'll also have the element of surprise going into Azure City, unless Cloister has an alarm effect we don't know about.

If we're just bouncing ideas off each other, I doubt they'll actually fight at all. I'm thinking Xykon already left Azure City. It would be nice if V blew the heck out of the garrison and freed the Azurites, but I also doubt V's in a position to do anything nice for nice's sake.

People are forgetting V's big weakness. Anything that throws V for a loop or gets him/her seriously upset can sever one of the Soul Splices.

I think V is indeed more powerful than Xykon right now... although s/he has already burned through a lot of spell slots. Even epic-level casters don't have unlimited slots. Still, V would probably win in a straight-up fight. But Xykon is really, really good at getting under people's skin.

If V loses one Splice, then it becomes two epic-level casters going at it. Xykon has won such battles before (see Dorukan). If V loses both Splices, well... splat.
