May and Beyond previews

Not that keen on the background for the Raven Queen. Nerull falling for her is a neat addition, but I don't much like that her ambition is to rule over the dead.

IMC she's more of an Orpheus type, who ventured willingly into Nerull's realm (with her raven familiar ;) ) looking for her beloved and their children. After much looking, she eventually garnered enough power to transfer the seat of Nerull's power to the Shadowfell, thus robbing him of much strength, and bested him in combat. As Chronicles of Riddick taught us, "you keep what you kill", so she took over Nerull's seat and moved to the Shadowfell to continue the search for her family. As the Shadowfell began to get a hold on her spirit, her heart grew ever colder, and soon winter began to call her Mistress. By taking her fate into her own hands, she earned that mantle as well.

To this day it is said that ravens everywhere (including raven familiars) are searching for the spirits of the Raven King and Princes. The shadar-kai, who show unending zest to stave off the Shadowfell's influence (something that has earned the admiration of the Queen), are also said to take on this quest (akin to how a Christian Knight would search for the Holy Grail).

So with Oath of Emnity do you have to roll 4 times and take the highest of the lower roll?
As per the description of the Oath, it doesn't affect powers that allow you to roll twice and take either the highest or lowest roll. So an avenger loses his signature class feature against Inspired, I guess... :geno:

I like your take for the ... sadness in it - still looking for a lost family.
I am not sure it's a weakness or a strength that your story reminds me of the Prince of Frosts story - he grew cold because he lost his lover and is searching for her reincarnation. (Was that one of your ideas that you submitted to Dragon you mentioned in the Prince of Frost thread?)

I like WotC for the sinisterness - the Raven Queen is definitely not your friendly death goddess. If it was for her, she would use the souls to her benefit and keep them prisoner. (And she still does for those that she can get.)
Of course, even that can have layers - maybe serving the Raven Queen is better than going into the unknown?
And she has an inherent dislike for other Gods thanks to their actions.

That, in a way, makes her more evil than unaligned, this doesn't fit with her previous description that well. Sinister is good, but this treatment goes too much into "evil soul-hoarding".

I prefer her as she was before - dark, not friendly, but with no concernable agenda as well. No name, just a myth-shrouded history in which she somehow replaced Nerull.

Cheers, LT.
