Real fast question: past appearances of the Behir and Barghest?

Title says it all. Working on a project, gotta know some history. I know they were in the 3.5 Monster Manual, but before that? After, if either one got any further mention until the latest 4e material?

I recall seeing both in Adnd MM2 that I just grabbed today.

Both were first published in 1e: the behir in S4 Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth in 1982 (and then reprinted in the MM2 in 1983), and the barghest premiered in the MM2.

I could have sworn the first appearance of the barghest was Dragon magazine, or maybe the Strategic Review. I do believe it was pretty early (long before the MM2).

They were lesser natives of Gehenna, but they didn't feature in any of the three Planescape branded monster manuals as far as I know, and they weren't there in the pre-Planescape 2e MC: Outer Planes Appendix They're mentioned in the Gehenna section of Planes of Conflict.

In 4e, a juvenile behir showed up in one of the Scales of War adventures (the 4th one, name escapes me) before MM2.

Yes, but was it the same monster?

I believe there were a couple of monsters that got earlier treatments in Dragon and/or Whitw Dwarf and later showed up as altogether different creatures in official AD&D books.

I have to say, Lost Caverns was one of my favorite modules back in the day. Before MM2 came out, it was a must-have for us because of the huge monster and magic item supplement in the middle of it. Most of the creatures weren't even in the adventure, if I recall!

Man, I feel old.
