Dragon 376 - The Demonomicon of Iggwilv: Turaglas, the Ebon Maw

Most tempting thing about DDI for me, the continuation of the Demonomicon.

On some level I thought the same, except a lot of what I liked about the original Demonomicon articles were that they were drawing upon and expanding a lot of material and concepts from multiple eras of the game. But 4e is so massively different in the flavor, history, and assumed cosmology department that to me at least, they don't capture the same spark.

I'd browse this in the store if Dragon was still an actual print magazine, but not an option, and I don't know anyone that subscribes so I don't have ready access to look myself. But for anyone actually subscribed to DDI, how does this compare to the only other source on Turaglas in print Dragon several years ago? Is it just a recapitulation of that article with whatever changes were needed to fit it into the 4e version of the Abyss? Or does it expand on anything (and how much of it might be applicable without much change to something set in the non-4e Abyss?).

Great article. I'll repeat what I told the Paizo guys, these articles also need low to medium level monsters, so we can start our campaigns and build up. Well written, interesting, I'll be using it, but it needs more monsters.

I can understand that but I like having multiple conflicting stories of dark beings. I use WotC's Fiendish Codexes and Green Ronin's Book of Fiends and the WFRP Chaos lords and Moorcockian Chaos lords as well as Cthulhuish stuff in my games. I'm interested in getting the Pathfinder devil books and I'd be interested in seeing these Demonomicon articles. I've even considered picking up the in nomine devil books. I liked the Yeenoghu Demonomicon article WotC did when they were still previewing Dragon for free.

This. I"ve never been part of a game that went over 9th level. So all this stuff, while great, is useless to me.

There's a sidebar noting that Turaglas doesn't have much past history in the game (Dragon 312 & some namechecks in FC1). It goes on to say:
"Now, as the curtain is still rising on the many myths and marvels that 4e has in store, Turaglas has reappeared with a greater purpose and place in the demonic 'pecking order.' A grotesque embodiment of the Abyss' chaotic fury and ravening hunger, the Ebon Maw has many years of terrorizing campaign settings and PCs lying ahead of him."

The article details Turaglas (solo 30), an aspect (elite 24), the exarch Gargmanethka (mutated otyugh, elite 27), the turagathshnees (demons with a venus flytrap-like head, lvl 17), and Cobrul Uthgren (human cultist, elite 20). A new lvl 15+ weapon property is also introduced (lifebane).

Ari wrote both this article and the Dragon 312. I don't have the article in front of me to comment more than that, however.

I did like this one. The maws every growing nature is just beautiful.
