LEB Discussion Thread '09

I've gotten over my proposals being shot down.

Even though the quintessential books do actually have the approval and even a publisher credit on the inside from WoTC, Does that make them official WoTC hardcover products after all?

No problem with the dragon articles. Not sure what I want to play in LEB4 yet so I don't really have the time to propose each article (which I do think is the right idea). I like hobgobs in the setting, but there's no support for them...

Hmmm ... I don't think the text on those first two sets of votes was big enough. Needs to be bigger!! :p

And yes, I have absolutely nothing else to contribute to the discussion at this point.

Would something of this variety suit your taste further down the road LS??

Since staff implements are officially two handed now, are we going to allow the exception that small characters can still use them?
Where was that finally stated? I missed it.
Do we still want the waiting time for approved sources? I don't. The purpose of that was for community to playtest the material for brokenness. The CO board on the wizards site finds most of the broken stuff within a day or two. I go there regularly, so if anything raises a red flag I can bring it to attention. The approval thread would give us(or the COers) plenty of time to get that material.
I think we should still have a time limit on when things can be approved, but I agree that 3 months seems to be excessive. Especially here where we have such a dearth of Eberron material we'll want access to any new setting specific material ASAP. How about 2 weeks as a wait time? If the monkeys over at the WOTC boards (which I also read) can't ferret out a problem in that amount of time then the problem doesn't exist, and if one does exist our discussion is likely to take longer then that amount of time anyway.
I'm still a bit leery of such a short wait time. Yes, with digital distribution, things get dissected earlier, but WotC doesn't approve errata in anywhere near that time frame. The two reasons we had a delay were to 1) wait for folks to have it and 2) wait for folks to break it/fix it. DDI helps with both of those so... how about this for a proposal:

Proposal (Mine): Time delay on new sources be 1 mo after it comes out on DDI.

Alternate (Modified Evo/Uk): Time delay on new sources be 2 weeks after it comes out on DDI.

This, of course, doesn't solve the matter for 3rd party material that will not appear on DDI. So we'll need a clause there as well. I'd still say a minimum 1 month.

2 weeks after it comes out period is too soon in my mind.

Hardcover WotC == Designed, Developed, and Published by WotC. The Quintessential Books are Mongoose (correct?)

I've posted the now-approved sources material to the wiki. Before that can be closed, a couple notes of discussion:

* Should gnolls have the same changes as L4W: in addition to all listed bonuses, the Claw Fighter feat gives claws the off-hand keyword, and "class features" is added to the list beginning "For the purpose of...", alongside powers and feats. Discussion here
* Should Reaper's Touch be shadar-kai only? Discussion here.

I also made a note about Eberronian shadar-kai (removing the explicit tie to the Traveller and making it clear no-one, no-how, as met a deity).

What, the whole two other ones? Maybe three? It's not like they've updated a majority of the races by any count. Perhaps those other races haven't been done yet because they are being problematic in playtesting :p
2 or 3? Gnome, shifter [both], warforged, drow, changling, gnoll, Shadar-kai, minotaur. Looks like 9 races to me so they've had problems with 1/9th of them to date. Now you may be right that they are holding off on the problematic ones, but other than kobolds, which ones would be an issue?

Question on double weapons:

double sword: So with the house-rule, the main hand end would be heavy blade and the off hand would be a light blade, offhand weapon? This also means that it can only take heavy blade enchantments correct?

Urgrosh: Dwarven and eladrin weapon feats still give proficiency in this since one 'weapon' isn't in the feat? Also, this wouldn't be able to take spear enchantments right?

EDIT: Ok, got house-rules page to come up. So you can pick either end as your main hand? So I can pick the light blade end of my double sword and the heavy blade get offhand? seems odd.

Personally I see no issue with it still. It's IMHO no more powerful than many options out there and doesn't doo much to change the squishy arcane type into a fully loaded defender. It gives them an option in melee, that's really it. If they're in melee they're still hosed as the monsters will most likely tear them up.
