AV2 Wondrous Lairs - art

It is beautiful and evocative. I hope there is more art like it in the new book.

When I see another blustering musclebound monster roaring out of the page, it might illustrate the creature well enough, but it does nothing for my imagination. But when I saw this picture of the many-faced tree and the Arcadian temple in the wilderness, several different stories and backgrounds leapt into my mind.

I agree, that piece of artwork is incredible. I remember the 4e preview books had a lot of art like this in them- non-action scenes that really captured the feel of a world. I wonder why WotC isn't using more of it in their books (hint, hint).

I think they have, in the DM books (I immediately think of one of my favorites, the silver dragon fishing for terapins off Totem Beach in the ECS). The player-focused books feature a lot of the action scenes.
