Pathfinder 1E [Pathfinder] Well done, Paizo! (Pathfinder RPG)

Slumbering in Tsar
I've just spent the last three hours reading/skimming thorugh the RPG and I am very impressed.

I love the subtle compromises (e.g. the Find the Path spell) and how you handled things in the book such as characters beyond 20th level (though I would like a future book for epic adventures, thank you - how else can I face the demons in the Demonomicon articles that James Jacobs authored????). I also like the fact that there is a lot that is unchanged from regular 3.5. It doesn't look like too much (if anything) was changed for the sake of change, but rather the changes are for a specific purpose, designed to (hopefully) improve a process (or spell, or feat, etc.).

The increased flexibility of classes means that there is less of a need for other "base" classes and just exploring the possibilities in the core classes will take many, many different characters.

Thank you for all you've done and congrats on a superior product.

Agreed!

I'm interested in hearing a couple of specifics, monks and barbarians, for example, but I have one quick question on a small thing.

How has dispel magic changed?

How has dispel magic changed?

Essentially, it dispels one effect. (The "area dispel" is gone from "Dispel Magic" but *is* still in "Greater Dispel Magic".)

You can either target a specific effect, object or a creature.

If you target a creature, you make one roll, and starting with the most powerful active spell, you use your result against the DC (11 + spell caster's level) to see if it's dispelled. If not, you go to the next lower ability and see if the number you rolled would beat that. And so on until an effect is dispelled or you run out of effects. Once an effect is dispelled, the dispel ends.

Danke.

I like it, it simplifies a lot (1 die roll, and only one recalculation) from what was a multi roll, recalculation speed bump in play. I was hoping they would do something like this. Its a definite downgrade in the spell power, did they eliminate the +10 cap on the dispel check to compensate somewhat?

Quick follow up question. I have not watched all the previews, do monks and barbarians still have point mechanics like they did in beta (ki and rage points)?

Rage points are gone, but there are still rage powers.

Ki points are still in (via the Ki pool).
