So what did you think of this Peter Jackson produced film? Directed by newcomer Neill Blomkamp.

Gave it an 8/10. Was engaging throughout, though it did shed most of the satire at the latter half and just pretty much went for all out action. Still, it made one root for what looked like a cross between a giant walking cockroach and a crayfish, and that's definitely something.

An action movie with a bit of the classic science fiction social commentary and "what if..." character. I found that refreshing. Technically, the movie is well-executed. I find the satire isn't simply shed - it morphs into a bit more focused character development.

I would not rank the splattery violence gratuitous, as it seemed to try to feed some of the point of the movie, but I did find it a bit excessive. If you don't like to see people turned into a fine red mist, don't see this movie.

Gave it a 9. It deserves the praise it's getting.

I have a few niggling issues with the way it mixed, then abandoned the mock-documentary approach, and the rules surrounding the use of the alien technology could have been clearer -- [sblock]I believe it's consistent if you think of the fluid as DNA-based authorization codes. That's pretty much how it operates in the film. Smart Prawn and Wikus are the only ones shown operating the tech.[/sblock]-- but overall it's an amazing piece of cost-efficient as well as dramatically-efficient movie making.

A solid 8 - great sci-fi elements and commits about society.

Got the impression that most of the Prawn were workers, that like many insects there was a hierarchy, that related to intelligence. I thoght this a commit on how we are becoming so tied to tech, that we no longer learn the basics (reading, writing, math) just how to use the tech.

Aka, we are becoming them...so, Dickers transformation.

Great movie. I can forgive the weirdness of the same substance both working as an 'authorization fluid' for their tech and as a virus to rewrite your DNA into that of an alien, since the story and action was top notch. Heck, it made me so glad the director (Bloffkamp? Blomkamp?) wasn't able to make a Halo movie.

Oh, also thought it interesting that they stated 3 three years, which would be just about right for filming a 2nd movie!

I gave it an 8/10, with 10 being the (IMO, mostly) unattainable perfect movie, 5 being average, and 1 being utter crap. The film was excellently done.

In contrast to some of the critics, I didn't mind the shifting tone towards the end of the movie. (SPOILERS)

[sblock]I think the idea was to convey the feeling that over the course of 74 hours, things started at very simple and spiraled wildly out of control. In the beginning, you could take a break and think. However, everything quickly became hectic and there wasn't time to think, just to act.[/sblock]
