Would you listen to an official EN World podcast?

I'm strongly leaning towards having a professional EN World podcast produced; once amonth, 30 minutes, fairly lighthearted, covering news, a guest interview and some comedic elements (maybe a Letterman style Top 10 Things each months).

It's still in the discussion stage. I'd be offsetting the cost with paid 30-second ads in the podcast (these ads can be produced for you if audio ads aren't your forte!).

It would be available on iTunes as well as here at EN World (so you can listen to it with your iPod or iPhone).

Would you listen to such a thing? Is there anything you'd particularly like it to do?

The last thing I want this thing to be is dull. I want it to be an easy, lighthearted 30-minute listen.

I've never listened to a podcast before. Correction, I've never gotten past about one minute of a podcast before. Tried a few, but all the gaming ones I've tried are duller than talk radio.

Maybe try getting someone inflammatory or silly to draw in ratings? Even then, I don't think I'd be very interested.

Like anything else, there are good podcasts and bad ones.

I'm a fan of several non-RPG podcasts. Ricky Gervais has mastered the medium, has the most popular podcast in the world, and it's hilarious. Stephen Fry's podcasts, while less comedy-driven, are also excellent.

I know that many podcasts are dull; the idea is to take lessons from the really good ones.

I would recomend not doing news or keeping it brief. New because quickly out dated and makes the podcasts lose their value over time.

Take lessons from the bad ones as well. Keep is short; don't have a 3 hour episode. Keep it focused. 10 minutes of meaningless banter and un explained jokes between friends is horrible to listem to.

My biggest suggestion would be to edit it and do not be afraid to do a second take if it is needed. It isn't live so take advatage of that.

I would probably listen to a podcast. I currently listen to 4 regularly (Fear the Boot, The Podgecast, Gamers with Jobs and The Drunken Gamers), and have time for another one. Personally, as long as the podcast doesn't take itself to seriously, I would listen to it. I would recommend 2 or 3 hosts that are good friends first, so that their interactions are more honest and genuine.

What would I like to see? Discussions with D&D designers (WotC or 3pp) on *why* they chose to do things the way they did. Take the 4E intro books (Races and Classes, Worlds and Monsters) and turn that into a podcast. That style of thing. Some humourous things (Like the D&D PSAs on Youtube).

I would certainly give it a shot as well. I love listening to D&D podcasts on the way to and from work. I agree completely with Crothian's recommendations, and I add that you should write it out before taping it. What emerges from unscripted dialogue is almost never interesting, unless the individuals are extremely talented professionals. Board Games with Scott is a great example of a well-scripted and well-edited podcast.

I almost certainly would not listen; I don't like podcasts.

I much prefer to read things, rather than listen to them, or watch videos if there's no text version. But audio-only, particularly of a rather long conversation, isn't something I enjoy much. I tend to look around for something to look at while it's playing, and that inevitably makes me distracted regarding actually listening to the podcast. It's also irksome to try and jump around to the actual moment when there's an interesting tidbit I want to hear again.

It's just not a format I care too much for.
