Maps supporting 3D combats

Anybody have experience with good mapping ideas for representing 3D battlefields? I'm not referring so much to aerial or underwater combats, as those really just need relative heights of the participants added. I was thinking more so of battles where characters are climbing walls or clinging to ceilings - everyone is on a "floor" of some sort, with their own terrain features, but can still see/target one another.

I was wondering if anyone knew of an easy/cool ways to maintain references between the floor, walls, and ceiling?

Something like this or this?

I've seen those, and agree they work well for fights with multiple levels... I don't know how well they'd work if you wanted things sticking to the walls as well.

I'm not entirely convinced there is a solution to my question... barring doing something like your second link, only having a whole bunch of "rings" representing each 5ft height of the walls.

Let me chime in here real quick... each wooden dowel represents about a square's worth of height... so in my picture there, (the second link) that second story is 10' up.

The dowels are about 1" or so high, so they make a good reference for height.
