Going to GenCon Indy for the first time

Here's my tip I always give to new GenCon attendees - do NOT attempt to stay outside the convention center! All the hotels that book through the GenCon web site are within walking distance, if not physically attached. The pain and trouble to try to park every day is not worth it. I'd rather cut my con a day short than stay outside the convention center.

Figure out what you want to do there ahead of time. It is very easy to overbook and get over whelmed. Some people can spend days in the dealer hall seeing everything while for others they will never go in there. There are lots of games going on both official and off books. You'll never be able to do i9t all, so don't try. :D

Heh, good advice. With Mark inviting me to GenCon parties I'm not sure I'm going to get to do much else! :D

The comment about booking a hotel attached to the convention centre is also very welcome. I'm not going to be hiring a car or anything like that so I'll need to be able to walk in each day. Plus, it'll make late night gaming / socialising a lot easier!

Crothian, are you coming this year? I know you're not an Ennies judge but it'd be fun to finally meet you.

I am going, I hope to make it a longer stay then normal to see more people. Last year I was just there Friday through Saturday and it just seemed so short and I missed a lot of people and events.

I suggest booking your hotel early, as soon as you can once registration is open. They sell out fast; you can often get in later, as people cancel & such, but you'll be at the mercy of fate. :)

When I said one-stop, I meant with one change of flight during the journey, rather than a straight London - Indianapolis flight.

Right, off to go get registered at the GenCon site.
