New Realms = Old School

Agreed. Blowing up a campaign setting to try to please those that hate the setting anyway is just lame.

*insert generic me too response with appropriate expressions of vitriol, badwrongfun and nerdrage here*

Also I probably said it before at some point but Vartan your name/avatar is awesome I love those comics.

I agree, the Loudwater setting/sandbox at the start of the FRCS is pretty old school, though it could do with a hex map.

I've grown to like and enjoy the 4E version of the Forgotten Realms... except for the maps. They really are crap with a capital "k".

The Loudwater section is a great little sandbox area but it would have been infinitely better with a map along the lines of the one for the Nentir Vale in the DMG both in terms of quality and in extra features marked on the map for a DM to use.

I look at the Eberron maps for 4E and they are superb. Why did the FR maps have to suck/blow chunks? (That's purely a rhetorical question).

On-topic, I really like what the OP has done with the map. I tried to do something similar with a hex mapping problem I found online but my map-fu is sadly lacking. If you use the regional map from Sceptre Tower of Spellgard there are some additional sites that would be perfect for expanding the area further into an old school sandbox.

BTW mucho gracias for this map, I've printed out it, and the key, as an insert for my FRCS book. Now I can see myself sandboxing away happily!

Edit: What's the scale on the hexes?

To the OP, ignore the petty jibes--it is a very nice, naturalistic map, and much nicer than Hexographer and other computer generated varieties. WotC could have done well to pay you for it.
