A halfling dressed in fine clothing with the appearance of someone you would expect to attend a royal court, accompanied by 5 guards dressed in the uniform of the city watch, enter the inn.

"I am Melubb Darley, some of you may recognize me as I have a moneychangers shop. Recently a small group of adventurers were caught in some political turmoil and escaped the city, you may recognize the names: Phoenix, Lookspring and Rowan. I fear they are in greater danger than originally believed. I have dispatched a small group to seek them out until a proper party can be assembled and reach them. I emplore if you know them seek them out and ensure their safe return to Orrussus to clear their names and end this madness. The journey will be a dangerous one in the least."

Melubb looks at the crowd, apparently worried.

ooc: this hook is for the adventure sinister spire. I deally 1 or 2 adventurers at least 4th level to join the existing party. Although a larger group may be possible as a short addition to get the 1 or 2 to a portal safely.

Addressing those who have joined him the halfling moneychanger begins his story, all the while looking about as if afraid his story may fall to the wrong ears.

"A few months ago a small group of adventurers were aprehended and accused of a crime they did not commit. In fact they saved their accuser, or so they thought as it now appears to have been a trap with a much greater threat to the city. A power struggle has emerged from this groups plight. The group has escaped to remote island where dispute over trade rights is an issue and the group has found itself in the middle. I have received reports from reliable sources here that another group has followed them with any but good intentions for the first group. I would like you to catch up to the first group and help them with their struggles as they are most likely a key part of this plot and our hope to uncover what is happening.

I have spent a considerable amount of gold to have the parties whereabouts divined, and have knowledge of an old magical portal to get you close ahead of the second group. The portal is located within ruins at the bottom of the crater in Rivenblight. You will go in the guise of working for the dwarven expedition parties to clear the way of dangers. Which you may well be doing to reach your destination anyway. You will be transported far underground to an ancient city that has fallen and struggles to survive. There will be many dangers. Good luck to you. He offers each 50gp for expenses.

Semabin looks at the katara, trying to figure out whether it is Lookspring or not. It has been a long while since he met the katara in the Red Dragon, and while he took interest in the katara's appearance, he can't be sure how different kataras are from each other - or how much they can change by time, for that matter.

"That might be them, indeed. That's a katara, at least. I'm not sure if that woman is an elan, though. She looks to be human." Semabin silently adds as he drops the payment for his meal on the table.

[Back at the RDI] Melubb decribes the group you are seeking to help.

Phoenix, an Elan, wears studded leather shirt/skirt and studded thigh high boots. Her constant frown seems to turn people off before they can really get to know her. With stuningly violet eyes and fiery red hair, she lights up any room she enters, at least until her lack of manners or even common courtesy dim peoples thoughts of her.

Rowan is classically good looking; tall, dark human with black hair. He wears breastplate armor and carries a guisarme.

Lookspring is small even for a Katara. His fur is black and gray with a spotted tabby coloration. He is excitable and prone to lash out when surprised. He wears a shining mithril chain shirt with a handaxe at his side and a composite longbow on his back. Upon his head is a wolf's head that he can pull down over his face like a mask when he desires.

At least that is how they appeared the last time I was in their presence.

Thanks for digging up the relevant information. I wasn't sure what aspects of their ppearance would be significant to you.

That sounds just like the skirt and boots you see on the woman. As for the shirt, she's got a chain shirt on.

Her constant frown seems to turn people off before they can really get to know her. With stuningly violet eyes and fiery red hair, she lights up any room she enters, at least until her lack of manners or even common courtesy dim peoples thoughts of her.

You can see her back. You can't tell her eye colour, or her demeanour, or manners or lack thereof. The hair is bright red, though.

Rowan is classically good looking; tall, dark human with black hair. He wears breastplate armor and carries a guisarme.

Tall, dark, black hair, breastplate, guisarme... check.

Lookspring is small even for a Katara. His fur is black and gray with a spotted tabby coloration. He is excitable and prone to lash out when surprised. You recgonize that in the katara.

From your vantage, there's nothing you can see that would clearly distinguish her from a human. She's taller (almost 6 feet) and her hair brighter than typical, but not out of the range that you've seen in some human women. There's nothing you can see that would clearly indicate a being of unnatural origins.

No, but there's a picture at The Expanded Psionics Handbook Excerpt. I don't have XPH, so maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always understood elans to be hard to tell from humans - similar size, shape, general features.
