feats such as

"Don't forget to vacuum"

"I said I was sorry"

"Shall we go out for a meal"

:)

ROFL

I think you're joking about many non-combat feats being ineffective, but I was actually thinking of ones like:

Skill Training
Skill Focus
Linguist
Practiced Prodigy
Practiced Study
Ritual Caster
Twilight Training
Dwarf Trapsmith
Trap Sense
Beast Guidance
Beast Training
Jack of All Trades
Sure Climber

There's also a bunch of others (like Alertness, Light Step, Escape Artist, Sure Climber, Long Jumper, and Group Insight) that offer combat and non-combat advantages, but I was trying to stay strictly to non-combat feats. And that's just from PHB1 and Martial Power 1 & 2. There's plenty more in PHB2 and the other power books.

I hate to explain jokes (OK, I'm lying, I looove to make terrible jokes and then laboriously explain them when my wife doesn't laugh, since she must not have gotten the joke if she didn't laugh - I'm slowly training here to laugh at even my stupidest jokes just to avoid the explanation).

The joke here is the typo "Marital Power 2", referring to the sequel to some sort of book about marriage and "the battle of the sexes", rather than "Martial Power 2", referring to the second book about the Martial power source in D&D. It's funny because PS replied to it as if Marital Power 2 was a real D&D book and contained feats about encounters between spouses, rather than assuming that is was a simple error. Are you starting to get the idea of why my wife hates it when I do this? lol

Naw. I think it was the reference to "Marital Power" that triggered that...

D'oh!!

It woulda helped if Plane Sailing had bolded "Marital" part. I didn't even realize I'd done it. And I still didn't notice when he responded. It just seemed...weird.

I'm mildly dyslexic, so I occasionally transpose letters when reading. So, frankly, I just didn't see it.

Mea culpa. And now I feel stupid.:o

I have no problem with the ad. It's a bit tongue in cheek, and it does market to a portion of the players of the game.

At the same time that the PHB was giving directions on how to punish your players for min-maxing, it was also suggesting punishing your players for using their class abilities in the expected fashion.

I remember a bit of advice that suggested that if your players were listening at every door, then they had it coming, plus see the invention of the ear seeker.

Meanwhile contrast that with the games they were actually playing at the time, with characters using summoned creatures to basically do the entire dungeon for them, etc.

It's pretty clear that the PHB advice against efficient play was just some pet peeve of the author.
