D&D 4E Good 4e prepublished adventures

OK,
So I've run some 4e stuff very early on (Keep on the Shadowfell; TPK in the 4th session or so when two encounters got combined). And I've played some (I think he's running the first adventure path in Dragon). Some of it has been truly outstanding (I greatly enjoyed the first fight in the adventure path as well as one involving a room filling with water). I've not seen anything I like as much as the best of the 1e, 2e and even 3e modules.

So, what's the best prepublished stuff for 4e? I'm looking for things with plot and some fighting (at least 1 per session, maybe 2). Things where the story is interesting and the fighting isn't always basically the same (a problem with 4e honestly).

Subscribe to ENWorld and start grabbing War of the Burning Sky. While I haven't run it yet, it reads well, and I've heard good reviews, overall.

I believe Seekers of the Ashen Crown has also gotten positive press.

I've been having a blast with P2 so far; while you can run the Drow City as a big fight, there's strong support for some heavy roleplaying. It's all about what your players are up for and what you present to them.

I'll second the WoTBS from EN publishing, but there are some things that you'll want to tweak (skill challenges are one and there's a certain fight in the first module that needs to be change otherwise it's a strong TPK opportunity).

Unfortuntaley, WoTC adventures are not usually that great from a story perspective but have some really cool fights/set-piece battles. Depends on your playstyle.

Oh, I love the WotC modules. They're great if you spend the time to make them your own and to add better plotlines.

You're just asking for very specific stuff. :)

Frankly, though, one of the strengths of 4e is how simple it is to make good adventures. There's not much difference in prep time, honestly.

I'm running H2 right now and it has a very nice setting, but I have heavily modified it, the story as written doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I should put up my changes in a blog or something because it is one of the best adventures I've run*.

There is a decent FR adventure buried in dungeon somewhere that is on my radar. I haven't run it seemed good from the read through. Set around Phlan, here is the EW thread about it:

Ive heard good things about P1:King of troll haunt warrens and I have the adventure - if things go well for the campaign that will be up next, once the PCs form a council to run the Seven Pillared Hall.

*not saying it is one of the best dnd adventures, but 4e makes it easier to modify things and it is one of the most enjoyable adventures I've ever run - this could be becuase of 4e.

I don't use published adventures as such, although I do pick and choose bits from them that I like and incorporate them into my own game.

All of the Goodman Games adventures in 4e are pretty good, although some of the math in the stats are a bit off and sometimes there are too many solo encounters. But the stories are pretty cool. I'm using Curse of the Kingspire as a possible sidetrek atm. Crazed eladrin witches, aquatic zombies that try and pull the pcs into the water where a massive crocodile lurks awaiting to snatch some prey. Wading through a war between two spectral hordes to break up a dark ritual that will eventually draw the pcs into a castle trapped in time. Then it's d&ds version of groundhog's day as they try and resolve the mystery before the barbarian hordes overwhelm the castle and the day begins all over again.

Another one I've looked over and have rumbling over in the back of my mind, depending on what my group does, is called The Forgotten Portal, which has a series of trials and riddles the pcs must overcome in the heart of a Aztec flavoured pyramid.

The third adventure of the DnD Insider adventure path looks pretty cool, as the pcs slip through into the Shadowfell. I havent run it, but it's on the cards. I've heard the second adventure mentioned as decent as well a couple of times on these boards.

I'm sure there is loads more out there but my group is only level 5 and I make a lot of the adventure up myself, or modules like Ravenloft from earlier editions to inspire me. So I haven't had a chance to try out a lot of published stuff.

Good luck!

I'm reviewing Siege of Bordrin's Watch encounter by encounter on my blog and so far I'm relatively unimpressed. Rescue at Rivenroar was IMO the better adventure.

Well, there you go. I wasn't all that impressed by what I read myself, but I had read other opinions that were quite positive. Maybe I got mixed up with Rescue at Rivenroar...

You really need to modify that one as there's just too many trolls (I know, I know read the title), but as brutes they have really high hp, low to hits so against a decently optimal group you'll fail to feel threatened by them but it still takes a while to kill them as they have tons of hp and if you don't have fire/acid a decent regen.
